Do you want the Olympics in NYC?

(I hope this hasn't been done already)

What do you think? In some ways I think this should have been a referendum to see if NYC residents really wanted this. They are the ones who will be inconvenienced and IMO should have had a chance to have some input.

ETA: Last poll choice should be "Work in NYC, live elsewhere."

A stadium in an already crowded manhattan is a bad bad bad idea.

However the mayor should be focussing on more imiportant things than a new freaking stadium!

I commute to Penn every day...I swear, if the Olympics was this year I would quit my job just so I would not have to come into the city.

No I don't want them here. THough it would be AMAZING to go to and see... I don't want it where I live & work. It will be crazy.

I don't think we're getting them anyway... not without a stadium.
PLUS---
Paris REALLY wants the games, they have the backing of the ENTIRE city and residents... when I was there in April, EVERYONE was really into it wearing pins, bumper stickers, posters--- so I hope they get it!!

no, for so many reasons.
money that can be spend somewhere, major threath and possible terrorism spot and just plain unnecessary.

I don't know. A lot of people say it would be great for the city, but I just don't see it. I just think it would be crazy!

Being a life long resident of Manhattan, I did not support the Westside Stadium plan, just because 1) 34th street is already way too congested 2) the money could be better spent on schools, repairing/expanding the West side highway and FDR, and fixing the issues with the MTA 3) This money needs to be spent now, what good is having this stadium built for 2012 if we let everything else go to pot?

But today I was reading about the plan to build it in Queens, replacing Shea Stadium, I like this idea better and since the Met's have to pay for part of the stadium, it will cost less for taxpayer's, I never understood the Jet's plan, I know they were paying for the land it would be built on, but they were not paying for the stadium to be built, correct?

I would love the Olympics to come to NYC, it's a once in a lifetime experience and it's only for two weeks, 6 weeks if you count the time before and after to get ready and clean up, but I do support the games and I do think they will boost our profile and economy.

I live and work in NYC. While I was against the West Side Stadium I would love for the Olympics to come to NYC. It would bring a lot of money into the cities businesses (which contrary to popular belief is still not back to the pre 9/11 status). I am also a sucker for the Olympics and would love to be able to go to the events.

i didnt vote b/c i dont think i really care either way. it wouldnt effect my commute in anyway (i live and work in the same town), but i doubt that i'd go to any of the games anyway. so yeah, it makes no difference to me (although i do agree w/ Tania, that the idea of terrorist activity does bother me a little, but then again, you cant stop living- b/c then theyve won). i just hope that either way, we dont have to hear about it,,, and all the drama, for the next 7 years

I would absolutely LOVE for the olympics to come to NYC. I know it would be a big inconvenience, but it would pump a lot of money into the city and really bring up some really run down areas. I think Willets Pt and Long Island City could use the facelift for sure, and NYC could use the money and the GOOD publicity. God willing if we got the Olympics and everything went well security-wise, I think people would no longer be afraid to travel to NYC. I absolutely believe there is NO better place for an olympic games than NYC. How much more cosmopolitan or diverse a city can you possibly find? I am really hoping for NYC 2012. And at the vvery least, my METS are getting a new stadium

As far as I can tell from the articles I read on it. The mets are paying the FULL $600 Million cost of building the stadium. The state/city would only pay for the parking areas (which they get the $$ benefit from) and for the conversion before and after the olympics. So it basically wouldn't cost the state anything extra, because they estimated that Shea would need $200 Million in upkeep anyway, so that's being saved by building a new stadium

I think it would be great if the Olympics came to NYC. My husband and I went to Athens for this past Olympics and it was an amazing experience. Something that we both agreed we would want to take our children to one day. The mix of cultures and all the history truly make it magically. On top of that I think it would be great for the city from an economical standpoint as well. New York City has come a long way from the way people still perceive it and it would be nice to show it off.
