Differences between a responsible pet owner and a fanatic
So let's hear them....what are some things that you think make a responsible pet owner, and what is something that you think makes someone fanatical about their pet?
Example...my MIL calls me a fanatic because I give my dogs food that has ingredients that are specific to their breed, whereas I think this is just part of being responsible.

Fanatics tend to have sweatshirts, mugs, key chains, mouse pads, fleece pullovers, pajamas, blankets, doormats, license plate frames, car stickers, picture frames, socks, jackets, screen savers, and various other paraphrenalia devoted to their breed of dog.

Re: Differences between a responsible pet owner and a fanatic
lol - I agree with MissJones! There definitly is a line, sometimes it's a fine one, but it does exist. People in my family who have never had a dog think I am nuts for taking care of my dog the way I do - but he is like a child in many ways, and needs that attention and care - and others who have raised a dog from a puppy (esp. large breeds) know this and think nothing of of it. I'm not a fanatic though. Sure I have a few Rottie things, but they are mostly gifts from other people, and it's rare for me to buy something Rottie-related -- unless it's really cute or different. I don't want to turn into "that crazy dog girl"

Fanatics are on petfinders.com. Telling you ladies, if you go on the message board and post that you bought your dog or cat... you will a zillion hate posts I know it is a crazy.
Another clue your a fanatic. When I volunteered at my local cat shelter(anyone who wishes to adopt a cat, fm me.. just a little plug). THe older women had about 15-20 cats living with them in their homes. Granted they were fixed and had vet care.... but that is extreme. I remember going to a lady's house and it stunk!! . her husband was not happy that she rescued all these cats.
A senior citizen that volunteered there had 50... that is right I said 50 cats living in the apartment. Again, they vet fixed... but 50. I think it was because she was so lonely .

Yea.. right. It really is a health hazard. It isn't healthy for humans nor for pets. Way to many animals.
I have two cats, would love another one. But got a big fat No from dh. . But, he is right. For now two cats are more then enough.
