summer ???

DS was approved for the summer program at his school. There is a 3 week gap between that ending and school beginning in Sept. His break begins on my due dateChat Icon I'm so nervous about having a c/s and not being able to entertain him like they do in school. Is there another option out there? Something I can have him go to for 3 weeks so he's not bored out of his mind?

I wish I had advice.
My DS gets a week off at the end of June. Goes back July 5th for 6 weeks and then has I think a 2 or 3 week break in Aug. before going into Pre-K in Sept.
I think a lot of summer programs are only 6 weeks.Chat Icon

Re: summer ???

Most schools are like that. Only 6 weeks.

Is there such thing as a special needs camp for young kids?

There is! My DH used to volunteer with them.

Its called ANCHOR and its run by Town of Hempstead. The camp is in Lido Beach.

ANCHOR (Answering the Needs of Citizens with Handicaps through Organized Recreation) is a comprehensive year-round recreation program serving over 1,000 children and adults with special needs. Residents five years of age and over with developmental disabilities may apply for admission to the ANCHOR program. ANCHOR is best known for its summer day camp at Lido Beach Town Park. The 675 camp participants enjoy an array of athletic, aquatic and cultural programs, as well as field trips and special events. This year's camp runs from Tuesday, July 6 to Friday, August 13 (weekdays only).

Horsability offers a week long camp that students of mine have attended. I think it is $$$, but I've heard great things about it from parents. Here's the info:

Camp HorseAbility is a week long riding, learning, and fun-filled day camp for individuals with special needs. The camp benefits each and every camper with a unique equine-centered experience that brings together all the wonderful attributes of horseback riding - riding as recreation, sport, hobby as well as its therapeutic value! The camp takes place annually at the end of August (Mon. - Fri.) from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily

Camp dates for Summer 2010 are August 23 through the 27th.
