I subbed in Levittown for two years and while it really wasn't a problem when I worked at Division, when I worked at MacArthur/Salk, NO ONE took the school bus. Most parents dropped their kids off right on Jerusalem Ave which was a huge pain because when you are turning onto it from Wantagh Ave only like 2 cars get through because the dumb parents are blocking traffic. Meanwhile, all the buses that pulled up had like 5 students in them each. It would make much more sense financially for the district to consolidate those buses because apparently the kids are too cool to be taking them anyway, so why should Levittown tax payers have to pay for the buses that no one uses anyway? But I was told that they have to because God forbid one of the students that gets dropped off (who qualifies for a bus but parent just doesn't want to use it) decides to take the bus, that there needs to be enough buses should all of those students want to use them... this makes no sense to me. Meanwhile, there was a PTA meeting about the parent traffic situation and do you know what one parent requested? That teachers should carpool so they don't take up as much spots in the teacher parking lot so the parents could pull in there!!! I couldn't believe it! Probably only a handful of teachers live in Levittown, they are coming from all over the Island. It makes more sense for them to drive AND they are teachers!! The kids should carpool... its called taking the bus... geez
