is it better/more effective

to focus on one area each time you go to the gym? like arms, back and shoulders on workout and legs, butt and stomach the next. i'm trying to switch things up so when i went on tuesday i on did upper body...and i feel like i got more done.

thoughts or feedback?

I'm not a trainer, but I do think it's better to concentrate on certain muscle groups on different days. It helps you recover and allows you train more during the week. What you're doing sounds like a good idea to me!

my DH is a pretty serious lifter and he focusing on one muscle group each time- ok he's a meat head

I do total body 2 days a week- it's a program my trainer gave me

when I did lift weights, I would focus on 2 muscle groups at a time.
For example, if I was doing my legs, I would also do my back
If I did my triceps, i would also do my chest..etc.
I think people get too rapped up in just working out 1 mucle group, they will do like 5-6 different excercises for 1 muscle group which is NOT necessary.

Yes, it is very effective to focus on either your upper body or lower body in one session. Also, you should always work the larger muscle group first, so if you're doing your upper body, start with your back, then chest, shoulders, triceps and biceps. When doing lower, do stomach, quads, hamstrings and then calves. You don't want your minor muscle groups fatigued when you try to do the bigger ones.
