Unemployment benefits

I know that unemployment is based on your salary up to a maximum but if you make the maximum payment at your prior job, do you get that amount?

For example, if the maximum unemployment is $600/week (just throwing a number out there) and I made $601/week at my previous job, do I get that $600 or do I get less based on a sliding scale?

Re: Unemployment benefits

The way they do it (here in NY at least)
THey take your past 18 months work history and calculate how much you made each quarter. They then take your high quarter and divide by 26. IF that # is OVER 405, you default to $405 each week which is the Max in NY. If your # is 325 (for example) than that is how much you will get a week.

I believe this is currently scheduled to end in July. Not sure if there are plans to extend it or not

Re: Unemployment benefits

Also, aren't' the first 4-8 weeks of unemployment benefits tax free? Or did that end too?

The first $2400 (or right around that number) is tax free.
