The list is interesting

How many have you read? I've only read 20 - I've got some catching up to do!

I can't believe some of the books that are on that list! I have done The Giver (which has a few things about it that are disturbing- but it's an amazing book. We read an article about how many people think it glorifies Communism, which is untrue.)

When I was in college I had to do a project on kids' picture books. I was impressed with Heather Has Two Mommies and Daddy's Roomate- I thought they handled the topic well so I included them. Found out later that my professor was very Christian and VERY offended that I'd included those books. He had a few choice words and gave me a crappy grade. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I also read somewhere that Bridge to Terabithia has been banned beause people (i.e. right wing Christians) feel that it's wrong that a character (Leslie) can have a good heart while eschewing organized religion.

Re: Most Commonly Challenged Books in the US in the 90s

I read about 30...

All I have to say is I wish I had never read American Psycho. That is one book that I would love to have never, ever read. I don't know what kind of sick, disgusting, twisted human being Brett Easton Ellis must be. I am far from prude but to even put into words the horrible, awful things he did.... well, there is something that's not right there. Oh man. Disturbing.

I counted 30..then again I rarely remember the names of the books I have read. I often get books, read a few pages and realize I read it already Chat Icon Chat Icon
