Bring lunch. DS is very picky sometimes, and when we gave him the option, he preferred bringing lunch.

Bring because there's no other option.  However, every Friday is pizza day and once or twice a month is hotdog or chicken nugget day which we do buy.
If we did have the choice, I would pack her lunch anyway. I always feel that's the healthier option. I guess when they get older peer pressure sets in and maybe I'd allow them to buy then... But as I said...it's a moot point.

Both. We go through the menu for the month and I mark on the calendar which days she wants so I know how much to buy the remainder days. I just keep enough money in her school account just in case she decides something different that day.

In kindergarten they both usually brought lunch because they were overwhelmed by the idea of going on the lunch line!
They did buy when it was Pizza Day because the cafeteria brings in pies from a local pizzeria and they can never resist!
Last year Robbie pretty much ALWAYS bought (because all his friends did and it was 'cooler' than bringing a bag lunch) and Noah usually brought his lunch (because he preferred what we gave him to the taste of school lunch) but would buy if there were things he really liked and wanted for lunch (pizza, mozzarella sticks, tacos).

In Kindergarten he did both. In first grade he bought. I send a check in once a month. It is much easier for me in the morning too

Mine do both. But I'd say it's 80% bring/20% buy. If it's something that they really like on the menu, I will let them buy or if it's a situation where I have to do a food shopping trip, they will buy. Otherwise its more economical and I can make better choices for their lunch. I let them have input about what they want but I don't like when I hear my son come home from school and had a buttered bagel for lunch.

DS brought his lunch most of the time. They publish the menu each month and DS really only wanted to buy when it was pizza or chicken tender days. 
I much preferred him to bring lunch. The school lunches were $4 each day, which isn't that cheap in the scheme of things (he goes to a private school)....
DD is doing full day pre-K and she will bring her lunch too. The option to buy lunch doesn't start until K.

Jordan usually will circle the days on the lunch calendar that she wants to buy that month. It is usually a handful. She brings most of the time.

DS1 usually brings lunch, but as a treat we'll let him buy on the days there's something he likes. He is very picky but loves to buy lunch.

When ss was younger he ALWAYS brought lunch. I think because he was nervous to go on the lunch line. Now that he is in middle school, its 50/50.
