Exablate

Have any of you girls heard of EXABLATE ? It is a new procedure where they remove your fibroids through ultra waves. Supposedly, there is no radiation involved and it is an in and out 3 hour procedure. It is less invasive than a myomectomy. This was approved in 2004;however, they do not have many studies with women who want to concieve. From what I know, 19 women have conceived after this procedure.

Here is the Irony: I am doing some temp work here in Houston while we decide if want to stay. I was placed at thIS Medical Supply company who promotes this Exablate. Go Figure?

This office has a couple of OBGYN's who are no longer practicing but are involved in this corporation.
One of the doctor's mentioned that this is far less invasive than myomectomy with about the same or a less risk of myomectomy but with a less recup time. He also mentioned that a patient in LI who wants to get pregnant is having this procedure done tomorrow. Are any of you Going to have this procedure tomorrow? LOL thought I ask. They only have a few locations.....Long Island, Dallas, and LV and I am uncertain if there are any other places.

I would love to have this procedure done but I am so nervous because it is sooo new. I don't want to be a guineau pig but this is how new state of the art technology starts off.

Tomorrow, I am going to meet with RE about my fibroids (considering myomectomy) and to discuss my blocked tubes and IVF. Wish me luck. And if you have heard of exablate by chance.....please give me some feedback! Thanks I will most likely not consider it.

ETA: he mentioned that the doctors who do practice this Exablate are Infertility specialist.....have you heard of them Daniel Kenigsberg or Steven Brenner in Great Neck?

Re: Exablate

Judy, good luck tomorrow with your RE consult.

I never heard of this procedure but it sounds like it's so much less invasive than a myomectomy...and probably less chance of scar tissue.

Dr. Kenigsberg and Dr. Brenner are the directors of LI-IVF...and honestly I have heard so many women on IVF connections rave about Dr. K. I believe LI-IVF has the highest success rates on long island for IVF.

Thanks!

If I were to get this done, I would consider going to LI....since, dh's family still live there. LIke I said, they don't have it here in Houston....just Dallas.

OUt of curiousty, I am going to get the codes and find out if my insurance would cover it. I was told that this is less expensive than myomectomy. Who knows if the insurance company would approve this?

Re: Exablate

I went to LI-IVF and got preggy on my 2nd try with them. I've met with Brenner but my main RE was a different DR. They are great!

Good luck with your RE consult- ask a lot of questions. Chat Icon

Re: Exablate

I don't know about this procedure in particular, but I've heard they're doing a lot of different things with waves nowadays. I believe they use them on things like kidney stones too to break them up.

This company is involved with similar equipment used for different things....I know they are looking at this for tumors in the brain, breast cancer, prostate.....it all sounds so interesting.

But, I am still apprehensive about it......will it burn or destroy other organs? I think I read somewhere about making the Uterine Wall thin......what does that even mean? If only they had more studies.

I highly recommend LI-IVF. Dr.s Kenisberg, Brenner and Ruman are all great! They were able to get me pregnant with twins! FM me if you have any questions about them.
