Riding Bikes Barefoot or with Flip Flops
Am I silly in thinking that riding barefoot or with flip flops on is dangerous? People looked at me strange this weekend when I said they had to change their shoes in order to ride their bike. As my nephew was riding around with no helmet, no shoes and no shirt, which I felt was not the best idea.
What do you do?

Re: Riding Bikes Barefoot or with Flip Flops
You aren't alone. It can be dangerous. And it's kind of painful because those pedals are usually not soft. I don't specifically have a rule about being barefoot on the bikes or scooters - but mainly because the issue has never come up?
I don't know - if they WANTED to ride their bikes in flip flops or without shoes I would probably tell them that the flop might fall off or get caught and they could fall or that barefoot might cause pain if they fell without protection. If they still wanted to do it.. I think I would let them. I imagine they'd be uncomfortable enough to not want to do it again. And if they got hurt it would likely be a moderate type scrape and - again - they'd learn from experience that it's probably not the best idea.

Sneakers or a closed toe type sandal. Shoes are a requirement as is a helmet.

Flip flops are really bad... that huge flap just inches away from chains, gears and tire spokes....
Barefoot isn't a good idea, either, but I don't think it's as bad as the flip-flops.

Same rule in my house !
And here, the same goes for scooters as well.

Re: Riding Bikes Barefoot or with Flip Flops
definetly put shoes on - i ripped apart my foot as a kid when my foot slipped off the pedal and went into the spokes
