No weight gain in 3rd trimester
I've really been trying to not stress out about this but it's getting harder and harder as I get closer to my due date.
I have VCI (velamentous cord insertion) which means that my umbilical cord is not attached directly to the middle of the placenta, but rather to the membrane outside
My OB warned that this could cause to be born on the smaller side since they may not be getting as much nutrition from the placenta.
I had a growth sono at 32 weeks and will have another one at 36, but as of the last one, was weighing in the 25th percentile and that most likely she will not be more than 6-6 1/2 lbs at birth.
I keep asking my OB what exactly that means and if there is any harm to the baby or it's development and all she says is "no, she'll just be on the small side, but we have to keep tracking her growth", which I find to be such an empty answer.
If there's nothing to worry about, then why bother telling me that they have to track it. So what if she is on the small side??? I know plenty of women who have had babies in the 6 lb range and all are perfectly healthy!
Well, now it's been almost 3 weeks since my last visit and I have not gained 1 freaking lb, and everyone in the my offce is telling me I look smaller so I can't help but be worried.
Sorry, not sure what the point of this post was other than to vent.

Just crashing,
Just b/c you're not gaining doesn't mean the baby isn't. I didn't gain much in my third try. Some women carry very small and have small babies. I know someone who gave birth 2 months early. He was 3 lbs and now he's huge.
BTW, I also carrier small and my son was fine

Re: No weight gain in 3rd trimester
Next time you go, ask where she falls on the fetal growth curve.
My uncle is a neonatal Dr and he said that there is a growth curve for babies.
I wouldn't worry too much about the Dr wanting to track her growth... I'm sure he/she just wants to be as prepared as possible for when your DD arrives and for whatever care she may need.
If you're still concerned, level with your Dr and tell them you want to know all the risks involved in what's going on and what they are looking for when they monitor her growth. Call the office and ask about your weight gain and if it's something to be concerned about in regards to the babies growth.

Thanks! Those are all great questions I will keep in mind to ask.
I have my next growth sono on Monday so I will wait then to see how is growing and if she is in a lower percentile than before I will definitely call my OB.

ITA with this...my weight gain has been slow in the last tri, but the baby is gaining. Try not to stress about it too much

Re: No weight gain in 3rd trimester
I'm certainly no expert but I have a couple friends that had babies much smaller than 6 pounds that have been fine- so hopefully the baby will be ok

Re: No weight gain in 3rd trimester
A friend of mine puked through her whole pregnancy so not only did she not gain any weight, she ended up losing weight! Her baby was 6lbs and perfectly healthy! I wouldn't worry!

Re: No weight gain in 3rd trimester
I have the same thing at 32 weeks the baby is small and I haven't gained anything I, on the other hand, am not a small woman they are seeing me EVERY week but say everything is OK just baby is small and not to worry then why do I have to come in every week for a sono? They are just being cautious I guess my mother said its easier to push our a smaller baby than the giant we all thought I would have
I'm not worrying to much and I don"t think you should either
