teachers/ school psychologists
Hi girls. I've been trying forever to find a job as a school psychologist in a school. Any teachers or other school personnel know of any school psychologist positions available in your districts? TIA

Re: teachers/ school psychologists
I do not . But I would fax, mail and email a copy of your resume to any school you would want to/ can commute to.
For the NYC DOE I would send a copy to the district offices. I would go on the DOE's websites to find out the Principals names, emails and send them copies.
This is the best. Both times I found jobs neither position was posted (I am a Guidance Counselor) but I faxed, emailed and mailed my cover letter and resume to every school I could possibily get to w/i an hour.
It worked.
GOOD LUCK

I have not had experience with LI schools but if there is an area you like send your resume--you never know when a position will open up. Try to have the Principals name of the cover letter--it seems more personal

Re: teachers/ school psychologists
The school psychologist in my building told me that she's in danger of being let go because she doesn't have bilingual certification which is a new requirement of all psychologists. Are you bilingual certified? If so, you may have an easier time finding a job if all the non-bilingual ones are let go.

No, unfortunately, I'm not bilingual but I can't imagine that every school psychologist in every school would have to be bilibgual in order to work there.... but thanks for the info... i'll listen for it to see if I hear anything else about this... but I really hope this isn't the case!

Re: teachers/ school psychologists
I am a school social worker. I would go to Nassau BOCES website, and find the link for all the school districts. I would visit each school district's website every few weeks to see if anything is posted. You can also try OLAS to see if anything posts there as well, but I cant remember that website to save myself right now. Maybe someone else has it?

That can not be. How could something like that be a requirement for ALL? Maybe it is just your school or she is using that as an excuse. Dh is a school psychologist and said he has not heard of that

Re: teachers/ school psychologists
Right now on OLAS there are 2 positions open for School Psyc's. One is a leave replacement, but its a foot in the door. Have you tried expanding your search for special needs schools, therapeutic preschools? Search the Sunday Times, and sunday's Newsday - they often have postions not listed on OLAS. Good luck!
ed: I have not heard that bilingual certification is a requirement. Some schools request it, though
ed again: On LI, I would address it to the Pupil Personnel Director, not the Principal. Pupil Personnel does the hiring for the district, and from my experience the Principal can have input, but not the deciding vote.

Re: teachers/ school psychologists
I tried to enter the address as a link but for some reason it was not working. Here is the address for OLAS. You will have to copy and paste it. Good luck. I have 3 certifications and am still looking for a teaching position. I know how frustrating it is. I am not giving up though. I hope you find something!

Re: teachers/ school psychologists
I can see bilingual being important to a lot of LI districts, but my district has very few ESL students (maybe 1-2 per 300 students) and they are usually adoptions from other countries, so the language is never the same.

Re: teachers/ school psychologists
Thanks everyone. All good suggestions! I'm already on OLAS and applied to the jobs listed on there. I'll try the other suggestions too, though. THANKS!
