Re: Prague
I can't really answer all your questions, but can say that my parents did Prague and Vienna on the same trip in a week (but they only had to travel from Ireland). They took a sleeper train from Prague to Vienna and loved it! I know Prague is supposed to be amazing, but they actually preferred Vienna.
Oh, and they went in October and the weather was fine - not too cold or anything.

Re: Prague
My niece JUST got back from Prague on Saturday. She says it is the most beautiful place she has ever been -- and she is very well travelled.
My brother and his wife are living in Sarajevo, so they met up with my niece in Prague for a week. They actually rented an apartment so I can't get any hotel info. But I can ask her what her favorite things were (she's a very mature and worldly 22, she will give good advice).
I know she talked about the amazing churches, and a concert they went to that was wonderful.... I will get details if you wish.
PS - She says it was cold and rainy, so I wouldn't go in April. Maybe May, June? And about Vienna -- you can probably do both. I spent 4 days in Vienna and it was great - I got to see a lot.

Re: Prague
OMG Kara that sounds wonderful!!!!
Do you have any information on the cruise that you can share? DH seems a little skeptical about this trip....but he may like the cruise idea.
We didn't have any specific timetable on when to go......just sometime in '07.
Thanks for all your help!

The Danube is all flooded now and drowning most of Eastern Europe!!! I hope that it dies down soon for the cruise, because that sounds fantastic! I am dying to see Eastern Europe....I live in the UK and the hip places to holiday at the moment are Bulgaria, the Dalmation Coast in Croatia and the Ukraine.

Re: Prague
Prague is beautiful and so is Vienna. We went in September and had great weather in Prague, but rain in Vienna. I think you could do both in a weeks time. 2 nights in Prague is good and 2 or 3 nights in Vienna is fine as well. I thought Prague was gorgeous and so was Vienna. If you go to Vienna have a Sacher Torte, they are so yummy. We had friends in from Vienna over the weekend and they brought us one, hmmmm so good.

Umm, I dunno, Kiev maybe! Their entrance for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 (Ruslana) was AWESOME and then in 2005 the contest was held there...and Greece won, so I would like to go. I am a Eurovision Lover you see...

Re: Prague
I went summer of 2004 with my mom. The day after we got there we went to an Internet cafe and booked a hotel in Vienna - then took a brief (3 hrs I believe) train ride for the night. You def. can do both in a week.

Re: Prague
Did you book yet? I went there about 8 years ago when the dollar was really strong - we had a three-course meal with drinks for $10! We were there at Christmastime and it was absolutely wonderful! There was an outdoor market set up selling Christmas ornaments and a stage set up with a children's choir, with Christmas decorations all around. It was the coldest I've ever been in my life but definitely worth it. It's so beautiful there and we went to a few clubs at night - lots of fun. The language was a bit tough, but we got through it, just pointing at maps and things on the menu. I definitely recommend going there!
