What is this about?
DH and I recently got a call from a company called "Global" something looking for his dad, X. We have the same last name so it's understandable that they would call us. We didn't say anything about X being his dad, just that he didn't live there, and what was this about? The person was rude, asked if we knew X, we told them again that he didn't live here and to stop calling.
Now I just found out that Global called MY parents looking for X. What the effff? They obviously don't have the same last name, don't even live in the same town. Why would they call and how did they get my parent's info/number?
I am so irritated right now.

Re: What is this about?
It's never happened to me, I'm sure it's very frustrating. My MIL used to get calls all the time regarding her ex who was remarried and even after he died. It's probably a bill colector

Re: What is this about?
Likely a bill collector... Now that you told them he doesn't live there, they can't call you anymore.

Re: What is this about?
That's horrible that they do that. It isn't the family members business that someone doesn't or can't pay their bills. That should be illegal. People have different reasons and circumstances for not paying and if my mom or sister was in this situation and didn't tell me then obviously it isn't my business and seriously, who am I to go up to someone and insist they pay. And isn't this a breech of confidentiality telling others about financial situations?
And as for saying that if you tell them they don't live there anymore they can't call... I guess this doesn't qualify for everyone. We had the Optimum triple play at our old place and had the land line. Well I guess whoever had that number before owed a lot of people money because about 7 times a day every single we would get phone calls from bill collectors, the same few companies and every time would tell them that no Maria does not live here, they would say sorry but then keep calling everyday. Apparently she also had a son who liked to cut school because the middle school would call at least once a week too even though we would tell them that this isn't Maria! LOL
We unplugged the phone.

Re: What is this about?
Bill collector for sure.
I got a phone call a few weeks ago -- looking for my sister's husband.
I've only met this sister 1x in my life (long story) and have NEVER EVER met her husband.
No clue whatsoever how they got my cell number, and when I asked what it was in reference to, they said it was a private matter and couldn't tell me.
Once I said I didn't know the person they were looking for, they said they would remove my info as a possible contact.

Re: What is this about?
I had something similiar. A company called my parents looking for my bil (dh's brother). They called a few times even though they were told he didn't live there. My parents don't have the same last name and they live about 20 miles from each other. This company claimed that bil put my parents as references on something. Obviously they were lying because bil doesn't even know their address.
I just happened to bea t my parents house and aswered when they called and i told them that they needed to stop calling. I told them I would give bil the message when I saw him. They went as far as asking me how I would get him the message and if they could have furhter contact info. I said I'd have to talk to my neice/nephew-they wanted their cell phone number. REALLY HOW RIDIC CAN THIS GET??/
it's so annoying!!!

The practice is illegal. There is legislation on the books to protect us from unfair debt collection practices. If you've been violated contact the Federal Trade Commision.
