Scotch drinkers!
Can someone recommend a really good single malt? Preferably something 12 years+ (it's a gift). Thanks!!
I am looking for something other than Balvenie, Macallan, Gelnfiddich and Glenlivet.
Sorry to be so difficult TIA!!

Re: Scotch drinkers!
Johnnie walker blue label is very smooth. At least that is what DH says. I barely drink scotch unless mixing it with ginger ale and Im not allowed to use the blue label to mix. lol.

Re: Scotch drinkers!
Depends on what you want to spend. I am not a scotch drinker but from people that I know who are, they like the Johnnie Walker Blue which could run like $200 a bottle. Or you can go with the black label which would be like $50 a bottle

i agree with DH, blue label is VERY nice and i do break it out for special occasions... and there is absolutely NO MIXING allowed... you can find it for around $185 a bottle....
Red is aged 8 years Black is aged 12 years Green is aged 15 years Gold is aged 18 years Blue is over 21 years
All are blends.
Red is the lightest tasting, Black is heavier but smoother and the blue, well that is for the real connoisseur. It is fairly heavy.

My DH's as well. In addition to the ones that you've ruled out, I know he likes Dalwhinnie (sp?), and Bowmore. I can ask him for some other ideas tonight.

Re: Scotch drinkers!
DH is a big scotch drinker & besides Blue label, Oban is also another smooth scotch, 14 year. It runs about 70ish a bottle.

Re: Scotch drinkers!
Johnnie Walker is blended. For single malt, DH and I like Macallan and Oban.

yes. I think JW blue is nasty to be honest. definitely not worth the price tag.
Gelnmorangie or Bowmore!

Re: Scotch drinkers!
Talisker 18 year.
*ETA - As other's have already said JW is blended - NOT single malt. If your friend is specifically looking for a single malt you do not want to buy them JW.

Re: Scotch drinkers!
Haven't tried the blue, but from taste tests in my house, JW Gold wins. No1 liked the green. Black actually beat the green. Everyone hated the red.
