DO you give your dog / puppy wet food?

my vet said to forget about the wet food because they get tartar build up. but my little odie absolutely loves it and runs and jumps to his dish when it's in there. it makes him happy and me happier that he loves to eat!

what do you do?

Dry only. My Dh is a vet tech and he said it is really better for their teeth and breath..lol..You can mix a little water in the dry food if he likes it soft. Also if you ever wanna give them a treat you can give plain yogurt in their dry food . Just a scoop and mix it in! They love that and its good for them, their coat and skin.

Dry food soaked in water for five minutes.

We brush our dog's teeth daily so we don't worry about tartar. We worry more about bloat, which can kill them, so we soak their food and limit their activity at mealtime.

First of all...My dogs name is Odie too! Great minds I'll tell ya! Anyway, when Odie had a bout of colitis (sp?) the vet gave him wet food that would help his digestive system, but since it's generally more expensive when he was finished we went to a high fiber low fat dry food which he's fine with too.

The only time we gave wet food is when they were very young puppies, and right after getting their teeth cleaned (vet said chewing might hurt a little & to give wet food for a day or two afterwards). They do seem to like wet food a lot, but the dry food is so much easier to deal with and they eat it just fine, so I don't worry about it.

We mix in just a touch of wet (a small can will last me a week) just to get him eating. We started him on only dry, but he wasn't the best eater. Once I added a little wet, he starting eating better.

Unfortunately we have to give our dog wet food, which I am not happy about. We adopted him at the age of ten and he is missing a lot of his teeth. But all of my other dogs have always had dry food, it is much better for their teeth.

No, I have never given Morgan wet food. I didn't want to get him started on it as a puppy so I never offered it to him. He has never had a problem eating and will not turn away any food.

UNfortunately we have to give Rexy wet food because he has severe food allergies. It stinks! Literally going in and coming out. We brush his teeth daily though and we have just started mixing in dry with the wet to see if he can tolerate it. But if you can make the dry moist I would take that over giving the wet anyday

I actually read an article that said you should feed your dogs wet food since a lot of the dry foods strip away a lot of nutrients... dont know if there is much truth to that but we do feed them both wet and dry food... always have

Yes, because he would apparently rather starve than eat dry food plain. We tried for a week and a half to cut out the wet food, and he barely ate anything during this time, and lost a bunch of weight.

we followed the recipe from the breeder: 2 cups dry soaked in hot water until it's bloated, a heaping spoon of wet food, and a heaping spoon of vanilla yogurt. that's in the morning. for her evening feeding we skip the yogurt.

we feed ours wet and dry- wet twice a day but not too much... dry is always available for them

Mostly dry food with some wet mixed in.

i did a few times, but i always mixed it with dry food... i havent given her wet food in a few years though

only dry, but i add boiled chicken or veggies. i agree w/ your vet - must say my dog's breath is much better since i stopped with the wet food. i'm sure you can continue feeding the wet, but shouldthen brush your dog's teeth regularly and/or give him crunchy bones or nylabones to scrub off the tartar
