Baby time - 24/7.

Ok, so I got to see my GORGEOUS niece this weekend. I absolutely adore her. she's precious and only 6 months old.

I was with my inlaws. My MIL, FIL, SIL, her husband, my DH, and my SIL/BIL's daughter.

My DH and I visited everyone at my IL's house out east (Fri-Sun). Saturday morning I happened to get AF (Chat Icon ) and I foolishly forgot to bring tampons.

We were there when the baby woke up. We watched her eat, we watched her make faces, we watched her laugh, and we watched her get her diaper changed (at 6 months...this is about all that really was happening - ALL DAY). At this point I NEEDED to run to the drugstore to get a tampon. The ole' toilet-paper-pad wasn't holding up.

So I motioned to DH to tell the fam that we were just going to run out for 15 minutes to the drugstore. Obviously I'm not about to announce to the fam that it's AF time. So he tells everyone that we'll be right back.

MIL's response? In front of EVERYONE - "Well, can't you guys go after you see the baby on the playmat? She's only up for a few hours before her 2nd nap(of like 6). Just wait for an hour?" She was relatively nasty about it too.

I was FURIOUS. We were bound to their house all weekend long to watch the baby do nothing. Don't get me wrong. I am all about my niece and think she's fantastic. But 10+ hours of this without being ALLOWED to get friggen tampax or being able to have ANY alone time with my DH!?

WE did not choose to have a child!!! Why should WE be chained to the house!? I will hold the baby, play with the baby, feed the baby, interact with the baby - but she is NOT my child.

So at that point we tucked our tails between our legs and sat there at the playmat while the baby drooled on the mat and played (I use that loosely) with a toy. I sat there for AN HOUR while I was in serious need.

Finally my DH had it and announced we were leaving. You wouldn't BELIEVE the stink eye we got. I finally announced to the family that unless anyone had a tampon, I had just got my period and had nothing ALL MORNING so I HAD to go to the drugstore. You better believe they all looked WAY uncomfortable and felt ridiculous. Chat Icon

This weekend solidified me and DH's decision to remain childless.

That's nuts they insisted you stay to capture every single second of your niece's day. I am sure you would have had another opportunity to see her on the play mat. And I can't believe you didn't just go to the store - it was an emergency and wouldn't take that much time.

Sounds like when we go to DH's family's...god forbid we spent 30 minutes alone...usually DH needs to escape too though so we just say we're going out & we'll be back...sorry your weekend stunk!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

WHOA!!!!!!

This is CRAZY!!!!!!

How f^cking obnoxious and inconsiderate. I'd be livid and probably would have tried to push in order to AF all over the place and then said something like
"Well while she is napping you guys can clean all this $hit up, now I'm off to the store"

UGH This story makes me mad and I am sooooo happy that your DH stepped in and said something to them.

Childless or not. I WILL get something for AF. That's basic emergency!

I would not have waited 1 hour. I would have been gone to the store for supplies right away!

I was thinking the same thing! That's just plain rude.

I'm the only one of my siblings without kids, if I was out visiting one of them and was in your situation, there wouldn't be any question, I'd go to the store, end of story and my family wouldn't have a problem with it.

Wowsers.

I think if you make them with the regulars they are a size 7/8.

For bigger sizes you can probably go with the overnights.
