If you have a C/S,

Do you bleed down there? Do you need to wear pads after surgery?
Do you bleed from your incision too?

How soon can you spend time with your baby? Can you see your baby in recovery?

No food after 12am, but can you have water?

Thanks

Re: If you have a C/S,

I bled for around 4-6 weeks, but after the first week it was hardly anything really. No, you don't bleed from the incision.

DD#1 was somewhat of a blur, but I don't believe she was in recovery with me. I definitely didn't see DD#2 in recovery--she was brought to my room once I was in.

As for the scheduled c...
Mine was scheduled for 3:45pm and although my doctor told me I shouldn't eat after midnight, I convinced the person at the pre-surgical testing to "let" me eat breakfast that morning since the surgery was so late in the day. It was OK as long as it was something very light and before 7am. NO WATER after that either...UGH! I was gargling with flavored seltzer all day long...Chat Icon

Re: If you have a C/S,

I didn't have a planned c-section.

But I did bleed for about 6 weeks. Pretty heavy the first 2 weeks. Did not bleed from my incision.

Baby was born at 3:25am because it was overnight they were on a skeleton crew and had a hard time getting me a room. I didn't get to see the baby until 7am and then they took the baby back to the nursery for peds rounds at 730.

Re: If you have a C/S,

Bleeding sounds the same as a v-birth though? in the hospital i wore double hospital pads, but when I went home it wasn't as much.

my incision never bled after the c/s

#1 I didn't see for 5-6 hours - but he was born at 11 PM and I slept until 4 or 5AM when they brought him in to feed

#2 was born at 5PM, I don't remember, but I had a tough time with anesthesia.

no water - they were actually upset that I had sucked on some ice cubes, b/c I was starving. I thought it was OK since I did it with my first, but that was an emergency c/s and you can have ice cubes for v-births. Before surgery my OB asked how I was feeling. I said nervous and starving. I didn't get into my room until 11PM, but my OB made special orders to get me food Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: If you have a C/S,

I bled for about 10 days - 2 weeks after.

I did not see DS for awhile, definitely not in recovery. Apparently after the nurses cleaned him up he had a hard time regulating his temperature so he had to be kept in the nursery. My C was 3ish and I didn't see him until 8:30-9 that night.

Re: If you have a C/S,

I bled a LOT after my C/S but not everyone does. When I went home after 5 days, I had to wear a maxi pad for about 2 weeks. I got to see my DS in recovery about 30 min after he was born and I was stitched up.

Re: If you have a C/S,

Yes, I bled for about 7 weeks "down there" afterwards. my regular pads were just fine.

I had no bleeding from the incision, if you do then there is a problem!

I had my babies handed to me as they were taking me out of the OR and held them as I was being wheeled to recovery, and then for another hour or so in recovery.

No food or water. I can't even begin to tell you how hungry and thirsty I was because I wound up being pushed back so many times, I didn't have the c-section until 6pm!

Re: If you have a C/S,

Bled like a period for the first two weeks (a little less the second time around). Was heavier in the hospital but then not bad at all once at home. No bleeding at incision - if you do, there is an issue.

I had DS in my arms when I was rolled to recovery (at my request) and was able to nurse him immediately. DD (baby #2) was rushed to the NICU, so unfortunately I wasn't able to have the same experience with her and didn't see her for about 8 hours.

Nothing after midnight, including water. So glad I was the first c/s of the day both times!!! (although graduating to the liquid diet after the surgery was not much fun either!)
