oh nooooooooooooo
I trapped the mother of all of them about 3 weeks ago and nothing since.
Do you have glue traps out all over. I have like ten of them all over the basement just in case.
My limit is 3, if I hit three of them I am bombing the eff out of my basement!

what is a camel cricket? I have crickets in the front yard that sound like a tiny army but I wouldn't know the difference..I will go to Home Depot now for glue traps..

They are blind so when they sense you are near them they jump AT YOU not away from you as a defense mechanism. They are nearly impossible to get near to kill.
If you use glue traps make sure you leave the dead ones that you trap in there. The alive ones will go to eat the dead ones and get trapped as well.
The main time for them here is late aug to november so its best to get the traps down there now and kill them as they come.

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
Fuuuuuuuuuuu*k!!! Are these the kind that don't make any noise like regular crickets?? I had them in a basement last summer, the first time in the 6 years we lived here. I was petrified to go down there. We have been running the dehumidifier nonstop this summer and I thought maybe we escaped them but you are saying they are now coming around? I can deal with many situations, I had 2 kids throw up in my car today (including one who was not my own) and I can handle that without blinking an eyelash but bugs will bring my to the edge of insanity. Especially something so huge & springy. Add the element of surprise and I am pushed over the edge. I was going in the basement with a can of hairspray in my hand all the time to spray them on the spot. I am saying a very selfish prayer right now.

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
We have gotten them, glue traps work great! The house we are buying I saw 2 dead ones in the basement, great.
But...they aren't dangerous. I do hear they are attracted to moisture which is why they are found in the basement.

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
I had a problem with them a few years ago and was so freaked out. I used Terminex and for 1 year and they never came back! They sprayed and laid glue traps.

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
Def. use the glue traps. I get them and gross centipedes in my basement. I used Parkway Exterminating and they got rid of them. They also suggested that I have a dehumidifier to control the dampness, and that really seamed to help. I just keep a few traps down just in case!

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
I have to say I am grossed out yet so very proud of myself, I successfully killed one this morning for the first time without using the shopvac to suck it up
I sprayed it with raid and then hit it with the fly squatter, a good method since you dont need to get too close to kill it. It worked. This is my new method. I think it prob came in from all the rain overnight.
Like the aboce posted since, run the dehumidier and get rid of all cardboard boxes. I read they like cardboard and dark damp places.

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
Our friend is an exterminator, and he recommended using Ortho Home Defense pesticide spray
we use it starting in the spring and it keeps the babies out, then do it again around this time of year when they're grown and start to appear everywhere. They really are the nastiest looking things, i HATE them. I've seen them around our back door and they'll hop inside when the door opens!
usually they keep to the basement, but we've had a few make it up to the first floor.
Try the spray, it really does work wonders. and its pet safe too (once it dries)

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
My DH sprayed something we got at HD all over the perimeter of the house (outside) and we stopped getting them last year. I killed one outside the other day, though, just bc I was afraid it would find its way in! I hate them ore than anything!

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
oh no no noooooooo i hate them!!!!!!!
we had the exterminator come by in April bc I saw 3 in less than 2 days. He put glue traps down and put a chemical around the perimeter of the house. I haven't seen one since BUT i hardly ever go down in the basement anymore bc I am SOOOO petrified of them.
I def suggest glue traps, try to seal all "points of entry" extremely tight and if all else fails call an exterminator!!!
OH and I don't know if anyone can confirm, but i just recently heard that they BITE?!?! Again, i don't know if this is true or not but it makes me fear them even more!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The first Camel Cricket!!!!!!!!!
I have these nasty things in my basement. The glue traps worked great and we also sprayed the perimeter of the house with the Ortho spray last year which helped. I had one in my basement that was the size of my hand. I didn't go in the basement for about a month. I can handle a lot of gross stuff, these things will get me to move out of my own house.
