Warning Avents Pacifier Fell Apart in my hand

Hello,

I just wanted to let you all know that I was holding my 11 month old today and he had the Avent pacifier in his mouth and I noticed one of the pieces looked like it was falling off. I pulled it out of his mouth and the pacifier crumbled into 3 pieces. My son was holding the front piece (the one with the design) in his hand about to put it in his mouth. They market this pacifier as a "nighttime" pacifier. I feel so lucky that it happened while I was holding him and it didn't happen in his crib.

I have already posted a complaint with the Consumer Protection agency and I plan on calling Avent tomorrow.

Also, I did a web search and found that someone posted on a board that the same thing happened in 3/2010 and it was reported to the Consumer Protection agency and Avent, but apparently nothing happened.

I got rid of all of the other ones and will be switching exclusively to Nam, which he already has.

OMG I have those exact pacis in my diapers.com basket - I have only used avent since DS was born as he likes them and I wanted to get the night time ones as he keeps losing his pacis at night and I cannot find them.

Glad you got to them before your little one got to swallow any of the pieces. Please keep us updated with the reply from CR and maybe you should contact Avent too.

The hospital I gave birth in recommended a pacifier made entirely of one piece for this reason, among others. I used the Smoothies brand.

DD used those pacis for 2.5 years and we never had any problems with them, they only ever fell apart when they were too old and that was just the nipple part cracking. i believe on the packages to replace every 3 months? im not 100% sure anymore though.

DS only takes avents, thanks for letting us know.

But I believe the package actually says replace every 30 days.

cg511: how long did you use the paci for?

I honestly don't remember seeing that they should be replaced every 30 days, but I guess it could be true. He's had it for more than that. I still think they should not fall apart anyway.

I've used Avents with both of my other children and never had a problem.

Definately a very close call and very scary to even think about.

There could have been a flaw in the paci. Or maybe it was stepped on in the past and it cracked. Good thing it happened when you were there...I know DS likes to throw his paci out of the crib and I have stepped on one. I threw it right out...
