Where are you getting them? With the amount my DDs need it will cost me an arm and a leg

DS is only going into 1st grade, but his supply list was pretty small. Some pencils, a pencil case, ruler, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, etc. I got them at Target last month when they had their 25-cent sale.

I purchased everything at Target, Walmart & Dollar Tree. My DD needed a white folder so that was my "splurge" bc I only need 1 and had to buy a pack of 10 and could only find them at Staples. But I saved 9 other 1st grade Moms a trip :)

I went to Target for almost everything - and did a couple of things at Staples. The cost isn't too terrible as long as you really stick to basics and don't get swayed by some of the super cute brand-y things. In other words.. don't take the kids. A plain wooden ruler works just as well as a brightly colored anti-microbial plastic one at a fraction of the cost.

We get them through the local store/PTA, but if you start in July, you could get everything really cheap from the Staples sales (just saying for next year) - I sometimes I wish that I just did Staples, but I like that I support the PTA/local store with 0 effort.

am i the only mom in long island that hasn't got my lists yet? ugh!!!!! i have one going in to first and one going in to second. and i looked on the district website, and there is no link. i don't even know who my kids have as teachers this year yet!!!

DD is going into K so she didn't need a lot of stuff, but we got the list for grades K-5 and DH and I were amazed how much stuff some of the older kids need.

Like starting in 1st grade each student has to bring in at least 40 pencils, going up to 60 each in 5th grade. That seems like a lot of pencils for 1 school year.

ok so i just called the school and they sent home the lists with the report card. so i had to dig the report cards out and low and behold i found them!!!! the lists are crazy!!! i called my mom. she works in rite aid and she's getting everything for me! woo hoo!!

So far I went to Target and Staples, Staples had a $.01 deal for a bunch of stuff last month.

I'm in Queens, for my 2nd grader there are 27 items (aside from what others listed and the basics) she needs, post its, erasable pens, gel pens, mechanical pencils, dry erase markers (no one uses chalk boards anymore haha) and colored index cards. Plus her teacher requested more items for "donation" like staples and a stapler!!

Both my kingergartner (who has 23 items) and 2nd grader need 2 reams of paper each (2 of which I got at Staples with a $10 rebate!), ziploc bags, tissues, paper towels, wipes, hand sanitizer (many of these the teacher asks for more 1/2 way through the school year.)

Your 2nd graders list looks similar to my 3rd graders except for the smock (which I would not mind them asking for and utilizing!) and the extras. he also needs post its, colored pencils, a binder, a few other items. I guess the teacher will need to buy the extra items if she doesn't add them to the supply list like the fun tac, tissues and bags. They ask for donations of most of that stuff here, it's just not added to their official supply list. And they periodically ask for extra stuff throughout the year. But my DD was in K last year and all they asked for was 4 comp notebooks. Nothing else at all. My DS was in K 2 years prior and there was a long list. And he was 1/2 day, she was full day. I found it odd that the list scaled back vs getting larger. I'll see what happens with DS #2 next year.

I can't believe how many have to buy dry erase markers! Are these for the teacher's white board use? Isn't that the school's responsibility? Even in NYC, the school provided chalk when I worked there.

I went to Target and Staples. I hit the sales.

But I had his list a long time ago so I was able to prepare for whatever sale stores had.

2 dozen glue sticks My son's list had 2. Not 2 dozen!

My son's list was simple. And no dry erase markers. And all they use are the whiteboards.

We got everything at Walmat, except they were out of black dry erase markers. So I need to get a pack of them and thats it! Our list was very similar to yours.

I couldn't get over how many things were on my son's Kindergarten list. We got it really early on though (about 2 months ago), so I just got things here and there whenever I saw them on sale. The thing I had most trouble with was finding a long-sleeve smock. I ended up getting one off of Ebay. Last resort would've been one of his dad's old shirts.
