Hi..new here...
Hi. I have a question and am hoping you ladies can help me. I have been lurking for some time and now I'm not sure what is going on with me today. I have irregular cycles...anywhere from 35 to 60 days. We have been ttc for a few months. I have one DC. So here is what happened... On Sunday afternoon I finally got a smiley on my OPK (CD31). This is not unusual for me as my cycles are all over the place. So DH ad I BD on sunday and monday. I had cramps since saturday...so I thought these were ovulation pains. I woke up this morning with terrible cramps, lower back pain and heavy bleeding. Why would I get a smiley face and then have heavy bleeding 2 days later? Can an OPK work like an HPT? Do you think that meant that I was pregnant? And not now because of the bleeding? I've been so upset all morning. Any thoughts?

Re: Hi..new here...
I have found threads that say an OPK can work like a HPT, but they are not reliable that way. Not sure, but sending you

Re: Hi..new here...
My basic understanding is that the OPKs test for something different than the HPTs. Do you have a GYN you can call to discuss it with them? If the bleeding lasts for several days, I would count the first day as CD1 and chalk it up to your regular (or irregular) cycle. If it only lasts a day or two, it could be something else. But I'm uncomfortable with unexpected bleeding like that (especially accompanied with unusual pain) and want you to seek real advice from a doctor, especially since you're TTC with irregular cycles.
Wishing you the best -- hugs & baby dust!!!

Re: Hi..new here...
I too have irregular cycles and actually have experienced similar cycles like what you are experiencing...from what it sounds like...CD31 isn't really abnormal for you to get AF. I'm guessing your cocern is due to the positive OPK? I wouldn't think too much about that...LH is always present in our bodies....sometimes it can surge right before AF arrives....or if there is a cyst present...which is also common and doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. Are you still getting a positive OPK? If so, then I would take an HPT and call the dr. If not, then I wouldn't worry too much about it... are you sure it was a surge? Its highly unlikely you were pregnant if you got a positive OPK one day, and a negative the next... HCG would still be present, even if it was a chemical pregnancy.

Re: Hi..new here...
I think I'm just going to chalk it up to my normal AF.Throughout the day I have started to get my usual AF symptoms. I think I got so upset this morning because I was so excited to finally get my +OPK, that it was sooo unexpected to see AF. Thank you so much ladies!
