Shakey Leg

Ever since we got Tyson we noticed that sometimes when he is sitting up on his front legs they shake. When I say shake I mean like when we have a weak muscle and use it and it sort of shakes....this make sense?

Anyway, has anyone read or does anyone know what I'm talking about and what it could be?

He's getting xrays on the 21st, same day he gets fixed, b/c he'll be sedated. I hope its nothing serious, but its gotten worse especially in one leg and sometimes he'll stand with his paw in the air or tucked under when he lays down.. Chat Icon

Edited to say when he takes walks and plays it doesn't shake and he doesn't seem in pain, just when he's standing still.....Chat Icon

Re: Shakey Leg

I know what you are talking about.. sometimes my little ones get this too, I think join weakness is common in small breeds. They don't do it often though, so I didn't think there is a problem, but if you notice Tyson does this a lot and hold his paw in mid air, I agree a xray is a good idea.

Keep us posted Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon for you and Tyson!

Occasionally Norton has this too, and he's a lab! It's very rare that it happens though.....

So we got x-rays and its no good...

turns out he'll most likely need surgery just a matter of when...

His growth plates in his elbows have closed pre-maturely, however the other bone in his arm continues to grow, which in turn is dislocating his elbows. Chat Icon We're getting a second opinion from a specialist however I don't think they'll be too much a difference in opinions from the doctor.

So I'm waiting to hear back from the specialist but my normal vet said he spoke to him and he recommends surgery asap b/c his elbow is dislocating and arthritis is starting....

I can tell his front legs are shakier than normal lately...I hope he's not in pain.

I wonder what the specialist will say Chat Icon

and does anyone know of any veterinary specialists around Oceanside, I want to get a second opinion.

Thanks.

I'm actually happy to hear someone else that has gone through this with their pup, not that you went through it but that its not super uncommon. I hope his recovery is as quick as Deniro's. I really hope he's not in pain, but the other day when I was taking him for a walk he kept stopping to sit down, he NEVER does that.....

If you don't mind could you fm me the cost of the surgery?

TIA Chat Icon
