Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
decided to try for number two?
For various reasons, I have been thinking about it since having number 1 and now that I am newly pregnant, it has been on my mind a lot.
Thoughts?

I am not in the same position but I just wanted to point out that you have nothing to lose by trying it! I BF DS and it has been such an amazing experience.

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
I did not BF DS#1. I had absolutely NO interest in it and I stand by my decision that it was not the right thing for me at that time.
I decided with #2 that I would give it a shot. DS#1 was colic and I felt that his diet had a lot to do with it so I figured I would TRY to BF and if it didn't work out no harm no foul. I would just be in the position I was with DS #1. I decided if DS#2 didnt take to it or if I didnt like it I would just formula feed.
Let me just say the first few weeks of breast feeding were TOUGH but I must say I LOVE it!!!!!!! I love that I can comfort DS#2 so easiy. It is now the easiest part of my day. It is the sweetest most fulfilling experience.
Not to mention how much $$$ I have saved!!!
Hope that helps. Dont let anyone pressure you either way. It wasnt right for me with DS#1 but I am so glad I decided to try it with DS#2!

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
i did not BF ds #1 and am already "thinking" about trying when it comes the time for #2.
i almost regret not trying BUT i know that it wouldnt have worked with DS, work, scheduling etc. It would have been a disaster. I wont let myself get down about it.
I am totally open to trying it when the time comes, with #2, if my situation allows

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
My original plan was not to BF #1. Just not for me. Because DS was in NICU and had stomach issues and was rejecting most formulas, I decided to pump. I pumped for about a month or so and am happy I did it because it helped my little one. He then totally rejected my milk (literally screamed any time the bottle with my milk came near him) and we went to formula. I'm not sure what we are going to do with #2 whenever that comes, but I have been thinking about it. I might pump again - kinda a midpoint - and supplement. I know this doesn't help much but you're not alone in your thinking.

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
With DC #1 I BF for about 6 weeks but came down with mastitis several times and in general really did not care for BF. With DC #2, I pumped since he was in the NICU and then BF for 2 months only b/c I knew it was best for his compromised immune system. However with DC #3, knowing it was my last baby, I was able to EBF for 6 months and really enjoyed it so much more. Not sure if I was more relaxed or my body just knew what to do, but it was such a different experience! You should go for it if you're even contmeplating it - you might love it!

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
I didn't bf DD, I was young, and totally against it. This time around I wanted to do it, more for the money. I don't EBF, only at night, pump the rest. I think it was a great thing for me this time around.

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
Well I'm a little different because I did attempt to BF my DD for about 4 weeks - I had a horrible time! It was uncomfortable, took waaay too much time, hurt and I barely produced any milk. As frustrated as I was, I'm still going to try again with #2 when the time comes.
I think I'll watch a DVD or something. I'm just not the type of person that is like obsessed with doing it - as long as my kid is eating and healthy it doesnt matter to me if it comes from a boob or bottle. I was really turned off also the first time around by the lactation consultant - the one I had was weird and closed-minded and really didn't offer any help

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
I did not bf dd1, dd2 or dd3 but i did ebf dd4. i'm sure when they get older and find that out they'll turn that on me somehow It wasn't even something I thought about with the others really. There was a bigger gap between 3 and 4 and I think I had more patience this time around.

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
With DS#1 I tried for about 6 days. I got horrible back pain and then migraines from being attached to him all the time and not sleeping. It just didn't work out for me and what my body could handle at the time.
With DD#2, I'm going to try it a lot harder. I think I learned a lot from the first go around and will have more patience with the whole thing this time.

Re: Is there anyone that did not attempt to BF number one, but
I didn't BF DS#1. I wasn't sure if I even wanted to try it but when I went into labor I said that I would give it a go. Then when he was born he was sick and I had a hard labor that I just said forget it and gave him formula without ever trying BF.
I really regretted not giving it a try and knew the next time I was pregnant I would def give it my all breastfeeding.
DS # 2 is 2 months old and we have been EBF since he was born. It's going great. I adore it. The bonding time is amazing. I love just sitting in the glider and watching him.
It was hard at first but I wanted to keep going and I knew that it would get easier. There were times when I was hysterically crying because I felt like a dummy. It felt like I didn't know what I was doing and sometime I felt lonely. DH couldn't help or understand really what I was going through and I was the only one in my family that ever BF.
It's important to have support. Thank God for the BF Moms on LIF and a small group of girlfriends that I have that also BF. What also helped me was setting small goals. First was get through the first 2 weeks, now its make it to 6 months and my long term goal will be to make it to a year.
BF is a wonderful thing but it doesn't always come easy. Don't feel bad if you choose not to do it or can't do it and don't let anyone pressure you into it. It has to be your decision.
Good luck with everything.
