parent crasher: new student/spec needs
My b/f's DS is going to be starting a new school. He is special needs/autistic.
Would you appreciate a letter from the parent "explaining" the child?

YES!!! It is an all win situation for your child, his teache,r and even you. I wish everyone would do this, esp with children who have autism who will have a lot easier time if some of their habits are made known of ahead of time.

Absolutely! As a teacher and a parent of a child with special needs, it helps prepare the teacher for what to expect.

ITA with the previous posters. I am a special educator and I ask for letters from the parents to tell me anything the would like to tell me. I also have cotaught with gen. ed teachers that ask for this type of letter.
Letters like this are especially helpful when a kid is new to school and the staff has no history with the family. So helpful!
