I put on too much...
Just got back from the doctor's office and I put on 6 pounds this month alone. I'm six months now, putting me at a total of 16 pounds thus far. He made me feel like a heffalump to say the least. How are you supposed to control how much you put on? He said I shouldn't have put on more than 2-4 pounds this month. That I am 50% over normal. He said "I'm not going to reprimand you just yet, but take this as a warning." :(
Just venting because I feel awful now.

It's not! Why would he assume that weight gain is a steady thing? People grow at different rates; why wouldn't a fetus?
FTR, I'm 27 weeks and gained 20 lbs so far. I'm no doctor, but your weight gain is fine!

Re: I put on too much...
With both of my pregnancies, I gained 20 lbs in my first 2 trimesters. For number 1, I put on 9 in my third trimester, and for my second I gained 5 in my last trimester. My doctors NEVER said anything.
Sorry he made you feel bad. That's not nice

Re: I put on too much...
thanks guys...this is the second time they did this to me, last month I was up 10 pounds and they told me I should start using the elliptical or the stationary bike and lifting light weights. Maybe this office is just super uptight about things. I don't even look pregnant other than my stomach area and my huge boobs lol. People keep telling me how well I am carrying actually. I guess I have to learn to take some of this stuff with a grain of salt. What you said makes perfect sense, how could they possibly expect weight gain to always fit in the perfect range? I feel better.

I'm sorry, I can't believe they made you feel like that!! Its ridiculous, I don't think that is too much weight. Especially if you only are carrying in the belly and boobs. I think you are right, they are just really uptight about the weight thing.

Re: I put on too much...
I'm 30 weeks and I have put on 40lbs and my doctor thinks its fine. He tells me he has full faith I will loose it after the baby arrives. I started off slim. BTW - I have up 28 at 6 months. Don't worry - I have many friends who gained 50 pounds when pregnant and they are all slimmer than ever now.

Re: I put on too much...
At six months I was up more than that and me, being the psycho that I am about my weight went into panic mode and my doctor said that I was doing great! I wouldn't worry about it. Maybe your doc was having a bad day.

Tell him to go shove it. I put on 50lbs with my son. And he came out perfectly healthy, as was I.

Re: I put on too much...
@ 6 months i had put on 22 and was read the riot act by my doc as well.
i really believe my metabolism has shut down (or at least slowed) because im actually very active and havent changed my eating habits much at all.
i have continued to gain weight throughout. ive also continued have him yell @ me each week but i feel good and am still pretty mobile - so ive learned to tune him out. my body is doing what it needs too. i did increase my water intake to help me drop any water weight - you may want to try that.
@ 38 weeks weeks i have put on 49lbs total for my pregnancy!

thats what i was thinking... idk maybe because all my sisters always gained so much with their pregnancies that 16lbs seems like nothing out of the ordinary

Re: I put on too much...
thats insane to be warned at all!!!! unless you are extremeley overweight to begin with that is the only reason bc dr is concerned with bmi . I am 33 weeks tomorrow and up 33 lbs and my dr has not said ONE WORD about my weight . doesnt make any sense

Re: I put on too much...
Umm 16 pounds at 6 months doesn't seem high at ALL to me.
I put on a total of almost 30 lbs and not one word was said to me...
I think your Dr is being a bit over cautious here...
Sorry he madeyou feel like poop!

Re: I put on too much...
I wouldn't be too concerned.I don't think your dr should have made a big deal unless your consistantly putting that much on every month..When I was preggo with DS I gained 8 pds 2 months in a row and he just told me to watch it. I'm pregnant with #2 and at my 20 week was up 13 pounds..which Excellent!! Average woman should gain between 25-35 pounds. Your Fine!
