Smartboard Ideas and Websites: First Grade

This is my first year teaching first grade and am lucky enough to have a smartboard in my room. Do any first grade teachers have any good lessons they use with the smartboard or know of any good websites with games or anything?

Im on maternity leave so I wont be of much help (since my stuff is at work) but any sites like starfall are fun too because the kids can come up and interact.

You know how you have the small cards set up (either on a hanging chart, or I put magnets on the back and had it on the board)? Well the cards are on the smartboard (but you will have to search the net for someone who has it already made) - you can touch and drag them to spell words. It is so much easier to do this way and you dont need to take up space on a chart or on your baord displaying them all day (when in my opinion the kids dont need those small cards to look at other than when we do fundations). What I love about this is that I then use the pen and mark up the words I spelt with the cards. Then you just clear the board and do another word. I also dont need the sentence stip anymore because I just write the sentences on the SB. I also found someone had made pages of just the Fundations paper with the worm, plane etc.. so I write the sentences on there and it looks just like their book. The kids love it.

Do a search for Fundations boards and smartboards. That is what I did and is what I have been using.

I've found that kids love BrainPOP.com and BrainPOPJr.com. For 1st grade I would only use BrainPOPJr.

You'll find short cartoon videos on popular topics in all subjects. After each video, there are links for games and quizzes that relate to the video.
