Help I can't stop itching...
Does itchyness have anything to do with pregnancy? I cannot stop itching. I've heard of your belly itching which it does but it's not so bad. The problem has been all over, especially my feet. I don't appear to have a rash anywhere and I don't seem to be breaking out in anything. I can't pinpoint what it is. I've put powder on and i've even tried lotion. I have had two restless nights over this so far. Should I call my doctor?
Can anyone help?

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
I was really itchy at one point -- esp. my belly. My doc said it was from my skin changing (and my belly stretching) -- I lotioned up constantly and eventually it just went away.

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
i had crazy itching on my shins early on. i told my OB and she suggested i see a dermatologist . since it wasn't a rash i thought that was useless.
a co-worker of mine experienced PUPPS late in her pregnancy and swore by a steroid free lotion called SARNA. i asked the pharmacist and OB if this was okay to use, and they said fine.
the itching on my legs has now subsided, but the belly has kicked in. i now use the lotion here and there on the belly.
check with your dr. if SARNA is okay for you, i was able to purchase it over the counter in CVS...

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
Thanks for the info. I think the best thing to do right now is to call the doctor and see what she says. I do have a history of Athletes foot, I'm a little ashamed to say but that was years ago and I went to the foot doctor and took care of it. Every once in a blue moon I do get that itch from it but it's never as bad as this. My whole foot up to my ankle itches, my hands, legs.
The best part is that my belly is the one part that itches less or not at all...go figure.

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
I think it's probably the pregnancy b/c I've been having that exact thing just recently. My feet and up just past my ankels. I've also been having lots of swelling so I figured it was a side effect of the skin stretching when it swells. I've just been dealing with it. It's funny. I can't really scratch b/c I have so much trouble reaching so I figure I can't really make it worse-on the bright side. As far as if you think it's related to your feet sweating or a fungus, you can try soaking in a foot bath of warm water and vinegar. 10 or 15 minutes each day will keep it away. I had a podiatrist tell me this years ago and it really does work. he told me not to buy those lamicil creams and stuff.

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
I have had crazy itching too, but when I asked my dr. about it she said it is only a concern when it is limited to the bottoms of the feet and the palms of the hands. She did not elaborate, since that is not what I had, but I think you should call your dr. Good luck!

I'm going to see how bad it is tonight. It's funny you mentioned not being able to scratch cuz you can't reach. I used one foot to scratch the other...LOL I'm ruling out fungus right now cuz other parts of my body are itching as well.

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
It could be PUPPS, it could be cholestasis (which can be dangerous) or it could just be stretching skin/ dry skin...
Do you have stretch marks?
My Pupps did originally come out in a rash- they were in my stretch marks, therefore it took them awhile to diagnose me...
Also- my arms were REAL itchy, and I had no rash there at first either...
Pupps is unbearable... like "i cant sleep at night, unless I have an ice pack strapped to my belly"
It isnt dangerous to you or the baby- until of course it becomes so bad that you arent sleeping, and you are very stressed...
SARNA cream is NO LONGER a steroid lotion. However it is a GOD SEND.... Pupps or not.... it will take any itchiness away!
Oatmeal baths are OK.... and just try and keep your skin moist.... If its pupps... nothing will heal you- but may give you some short relief...
Pupps- is basically when you are allergic to you placenta... the itching is internal, so nothing goes away until the placenta is delivered. Depending on how bad your case is you OB can prescribe steroids of all different dosages...
Cholestasis has something to do with bile fluids- so I suggest going to the DR and having blood work done to rule this out!
DOnt let you DR. blow any of this off.... both situations are very uncomfortable- and since there isnt many cases of either- Dr.s tend to not pay itchiness much attention...
Im sure its just preg. itchy's- but I figured I give you as much info as I could... Feel free to FM- if you wanna chat...

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
Call your doc NOW and get your blood work done today! I dont mean to scare you but I had itching when I was 37 1/2 weeks and it turned out to be colestasis and I was induced the day my blood work came back... its not good for you or the baby, please get it done asap so you can rule it out...itcing is worse at night and on soles of feet and palms of hands..please fm me with any questions..
Cholestasis is not common but I had it and only for the internet and researching I wouls have ignored it.

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
I had PUPPS as well, and while it does spread I believe it starts with a rash on the belly, and then to arms and legs... I hadn't heard of it on palms or soles of feet. So sounds like what you have isn't PUPPS.

Re: Help I can't stop itching...
God me too. I'd hate for the doctor to do bloodtests and determine that I have to be induced. I'm not even packed yet!
