The mom of a child in Jordan's class died on Thursday
It is so tragic. The mom of a boy in her 4th grade class died of cancer on thurs. She has 4 kids She had Non Hodgkins Lymphoma 8 years ago and beat it. Then just a few weeks ago she wasn't feeling well and they found some type of Carsinoma in her lung. Here we are a few weeks later and she is gone .
I feel so bad for this little boy and his whole family. Apparently Jordan took the news really hard in school and I was told she sobbed for a loooong time. She never had to think about the fact that sometimes kids lose their mom(or dad). This reality is terrifying to her and I am trying to help her cope. She won't leave my side.
Sometimes life just $ucks!!!

That is beyond heartbreaking. My cousin's ex husband died earlier this year of cancer of the bile ducts. He was only 42 and had a 12 yr old (hers) and a 3 yr old (2nd marriage) She was still very close with him despite their divorce and both being remarried. I don't know how people go on. Your DD is very empathetic and I can completely understand her clinging to you. Do you know if the school will have a counsellor speak with the class? It might be part of their protocol if something like this happens but if not, I would suggest it. I'm sure your DD is not the only one so upset.

do they have counseling at the school??? I sure hope so. The death of a parent opens up a whole can of worms for young children and it's important for the school to step up and properly address the situation.
I am so sorry for that poor child to have lost a mother at such a young age

That's awful. That poor family. This year we have two friends - one just finished chemo with non-Hogkins & one currently battling Hogkins and another just died of liver cancer in February. All with young kids. It's devastating. I agree that the school should have some counseling for the kids available. Especially with children so young.

Yes the school sent in a couselor to talk with them. They also sent home some resources for the parents. I think that they did what they could for the kids, it is just never easy.

I wonder if your DD is in the same district as my siblings-they go to Comsewogue SD-mother of a boy in my 7th grade brother and sister's class passed a few days ago from cancer and my sister took it very hard.
