Getting your Toddler to join a group activity
I need some Mom help getting my DD to join in activities. She is almost 4, and I signed her up for gymnastics. she went to the first 2 and loved them. then this past saturday, she clung to my leg and wouldn't go in the room and join in. So I just didn't know what to do. So i said either you join the class or we go home, and she said 'go home'. so home we went. But I was mad, and I know I shouldn't be, that we pay for these classes and she gets all clingy. I know she enjoys them and has fun, but sometimes she just freezes up and doesn't want to go in the room. We can look in the room, and she sees me watching through the window (It's at BK gymnastics for anyone in the Babylon area). We signed her up for a kiddie-gym last fall, and she did the same thing, so I thought she just wasn't ready. So I was very excited when she took to taking a class this year - the first one she bounded in and had a great time.
Aside from peeling her from my leg and leaving her there crying and running out of the room after me, is there any alternative? The only difference was that when we went this week, we had a couple of minutes to wait and then she got clingy. The last 2 weeks we got to the gym and went right in, she had no time to think about not going. So maybe that's my plan. dunno..
Would welcome any suggestions! Thanks!
