Anyone's kids involved in girl scouts?
We got a flyer today that they are having an open house on Monday at the school. What do they do in girl scouts, especially at the kindergarten age?
TIA

Yes...joined in 1st grade though. Crafts, responsibility, character building. It's a good after-school activity for my daughter.
I'm anti-Boy Scouts so I do get a lot of flack from my son.

Re: Anyone's kids involved in girl scouts?
DD has her 1st meeting tomorrow, so I'm not 100% sure yet. At the parent meeting 2 weeks ago they said that it was a lot of little crafts and learning about the different petals (GS pledge, honesty, friendship, loyalty, etc). There are additional events you can go to but they are all optional.
I'm going to know A LOT more about it soon, her troop is about 30 girls and there are 12 more on a waiting list so this week another mom and I volunteered to start a 2nd daisy troop for those girls, we should be up and running by the end of next month.

Re: Anyone's kids involved in girl scouts?
My DD is a Daisy Scout. We have the best troop. I'm the cookie Mom and it was pure heaven in my house the day I dragged DH to do the order pick up - wall to wall cookies. This year since they are in 1st grade we are planning do alot more. But they earn petals that stand for different positive behaviors. The earned 5 last year, they will earn 5 more this year. We did scrapbooks, a Princess party, orgami, planting flowers, making cards for the soldiers & for elderly in nursing homes, You should do it - my DD got close with a whole bunch of girls in addition to the kids she met in her class in K. And I met some really great Moms too.

Wow! I was just going to ask how many leaders you have. You need a lot of adults for that many girls, good for you starting another troop. Leaders can be so hard to come by.

I've been looking for a troop, it seems the ones around here are difficult to find and they meet sort of late for us (6 or 7 pm). DD has been asking to join and I think it would be great for her!

The current troop has 2 leaders, 2 moms have to volunteer each meeting and then they have 4 high school girls who are going for their silver or gold award volunteering to help as well.
The new troop will have 2, maybe 3 leaders.
