Button Tumors

My little Kasey developed what looks like a wart on the base of his tail. I took him to our vet last night and the Dr. claims it's a button tumor aka histiocytoma.

Apparently, the should disappear in 6-8 weeks. I was advised to wait and see if it goes away on its own. It it was to get larger before then, the Dr. will remove it. If it doesn't disappear on its own in 6 weeks, the Dr. will remove it.

Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this before? From the reseach Ive done online it seems harmless. I'am concerned that it wasn't needle biopsied but, I trust my vet so I wont ? him.

My Porter had something like this. I wasn't with DH when he took him to the vet and my vet said we can remove it or leave it and see if it gets bigger or starts to go away. DH and I talked about it and i wanted it removed becuase i saw it was getting bigger within a week. My vet did not needle biopsy it either. It was on his ear so you can see that a small piece of his ear was cut out but other than that, he is fine. That was about 2 years ago.

We had that with Ginger a few months back. Here's the long story. The short story is, we had the needle biopsy to be sure, not because we didn't trust them, but because we just got her in February and don't know her history. It is gone now, just went away on it's own like they said.

I hope the same happens with you guys.

We are going to monitor it right now. My Dr. seems very confident that it will disappear on it's own and that is what we are hoping for.

I don't want to put him through the removal (sedation, shaving, stitches and cone) if we don't have to.

My dog had one on her ear, and the vet said the same thing. I took about 1-2 months before it finally went away on its own.
