I couldnt believe my ears...
I was at a pizza place tonite and there sat a babysitter (about 20), the babsitters mother and a 7 yr old that she babysat. This babysitter was egging the 7 r old on to say things about herself and her family and the sitter and her mom critiqued it or rolled their eyes and laughed. the sitter said "where do you sleep" and the little girl was saying shes too scared to be in her room. The mother of the sitter told her that she needs to go in her room bc she cant sleep with her mom etc... They also went on to say "what does daddy do when he comes home" and the little girl gave all of their family business. I cant even fathom the thought that one day my dd can be that little girl being critiqued and criticized while the person watching her ridiculed her. It was actually pretty disgusting.

That's repulsive.
Don't get me wrong I was a horribly gossip-y babysitter who told my friends everything about the people I babysat for - I'd be like "The Schurmann's always fight outside for like 20 minutes before they come in and pay me!" or "I never let Mr. Dillon drive me home because he always holds my hand too long when he pays me and it's creepy." Or "The Link's say it's alright to give Crystal soda in her baby bottle!" I mean.. I was a kid (13-16) and this was interesting stuff to me.
BUT I would NEVER use the kids as a vehicle to get information - even as a teenager I think I knew that would just be mean and unjust. I played with the kids and did my job and treated them well.
As a mother - I'd fire anyone who used my kid and made fun of them like that. Even if the child didn't know they were being made fun of.
And as much as the babysitter is a jerk.. her MOTHER is worse. Good God. You would think an older woman would tell her daughter "Hey.. not right.. knock it off." I guess we know where the babysitter gets it from.

This is so very true.
I thought about it this AM. I wondered if I should have said something but then I realized that if I did I would most likely bring to a head the fact that they were making fun of her...in front of her. I think it was safer at the moment that the little girl didnt know what was going on. Plus I had my little one.
