Another Kitty Attack

I was playing with my fat cat and he went all exersist on me! He lunged and bit my leg. He's done this before but has never drew blood. It's a gusher! I cleaned it up, showered & it's still going. I yelled at him so badly b/c he's been getting progressivly more aggressive during playtime. I don't want him to think it's an okay thing to do. But I yelled at him so badly I think he was afraid of me for a little while Chat Icon Now that I'm sitting at the computer I think he's trying to make up with me. He jumped up on the chair and is gently nudging me. I hate scolding him like this but it's not a good thing for either one of us. DH is going to be upset when he comes home and sees that he attaked again. We don't know what to do. We can't stop playing with him. He starts off ok and then does this head turn thing and you know it's coming. I try to block him but he's just faster then I am. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon How old is your cat? I have noticed that my cat, who is 8 now, has mellowed out. He used to attack my DH and scratch him, and sometimes it was bad enough that his shirt was ripped and he bled. He could tell when Hades was getting in one of his moods and would play with him to burn off the extra energy.

You said you were playing with your kitty. How were you playing? We have this wand toy with a really long flannel piece that you can stand and wave along the floor, and this way you can play without being too near to the cat. Kitty can run and get energy out, and since you are standing you are less at rick to get attacked.

It looks similar to this:

We have a strict toy only policy in our house - we never use our hands or other body parts to play - he tries sometimes but we stop it immediately.

Have you tried spraying with water? This seems to help - our boy still will lash at us a little but he has never bitten hard or drawn blood. I have found he has been biting less strongly as he has gotten a litte older.

Can you also look for a clue - sometimes when we pet our boy for a long time he gets mad and you can see the look on his face, we try to notice to stop petting before he turns into a wild animal - maybe you can notice a sign yours will make?

Hope these things help

Re: Another Kitty Attack

My kitty is 8! and there's no sign of slowing down! Which on one hand is a great thing. We have tons of toys. I love when I come home (or wake up in the morning) and find them all over the place. To me it's a sign he had a good day. We have a Fozzy Bear doll and that is his designated get rough doll. He goes nutso on him. He grabs onto him wraps his front paws around his body, bites his neck and kicks with his back paws. It's his outlet for aggression. It's kinda funny. We've had Fozzy for years so he knows what it's all ab out. He hasn't lashed out in our play time since. so that is a good thing.

One of my cats that I used to have was like that, sometimes they are trying to say, I can do what I want to you, but you can't touch me. That is a good idea of the toy that the previous poster listed.
