So sick of the anti-teacher comments
I am so sick of the news making us out to be the villains. I had a huge debate with a family member about how the city wants to post teacher's ratings. He basically said that teachers hide behind their unions and that they deserve to have these grades posted.
Why don't people understand that these reports are not valid and do not factor in all of the many variables that affect the way a child learns?
I am so over it. I give everything to my job and students. I am sick of all of this pressure. What is happening to this profession?

It's really disgusting the horrible things people think about teachers....and it's even more disgusting when they actually voice them. I'm forever having debates with people about teaching and it makes me want to scream!

same here. I am tired of defending what I do for a living. I always say, than try my job for a week, and get back to me.

Seriously, I would love for some of these azzholes to do our jobs for a day. I would love to see the mayor or chancellor walk into some of these schools.
I have NO issues at all sharing my TDR with the parents of my students- none at all. But releasing these scores, when the tests have been PROVEN to be flawed, is unfair. Bloomberg and Klein are just trying to deflect attention from the fact that they bragged about the scores going up, even though teacher have said all along that something was amiss.
If the economy was still good, I really doubt this level of teacher-bashing would be happening.

ITA, the teacher bashing is ridiculous. I work in an affluent area and I understand people's taxes are high however, that doesn't mean you need to demean me and my job. People always think they can do our job and we have it so easy.
Why do parents always say "I can't wait for summer to end" or "Is Monday almost here?" Because they can't handle their 2 kids needs, let alone 20+.  Yet they don't translate those thoughts into how tough teaching kids on all different levels at the same time is.
I thoroughly enjoy watching parents run class parties.  It's a nightmare because they don't know how to manage a group of children and address individual needs simultaneously.
Releasing the scores to the public would not be a problem if they (the public) understood the diversity of needs in each individual classroom and how that affects the outcome. JMO.

I hate it. I feel like I'm constantly defending myself and my profession. I want to shake these people and ask what happened to them in school to make them hate us so much.
