Why does my cat stick her face in the water bowl?
My girl is 16. She's been with me since I was a freshman in high school. Over the years she's adapted to many changes, moves, me being away at college, etc.
Since she moved in with me and DH (from my parents house) a year ago, she's started laying with her face in the water bowl! she NEVER did this before, ever!! It is so bizzare. Does anyone else have a cat that does this? She gets up and her face is literally SOPPING wet, it's so ridiculous!

I have no clue but my dog does the same thing...and she also puts her paw into the water, so she comes out totally soaked, and covers the kitchen with water. it's very strange.

Our kitty will do the paw, and sometimes just a bit of her mouth. I think sometimes she does it to figure out the water level?
She doesnt shove in there and sit in it - just before drinking.

I know mine like the bathroom because of the steam and with the heat on now they don't care for dry home.

My cat does this.
Someone once told me it was a territorial thing... like claiming it as it's hers.
Could be true. But I suppose until cats learn to speak, the world may never know....

You say she started doing it after moving -- I wonder if it is a territorial thing? She is protecting the resources in the house that are hers?
Just a thought! If she's eating / drinking normally, it may just be one of those quirky things...

wow you may be right, i mean, it would make the MOST sense if it were a territorial thing. she will not drink or eat the other cat's stuff. she'll sniff it, but pass right on by.
I suppose it's better than peeing on stuff, which she's gotten better about!

Then I'm pretty positive it's a territorial thing!! My cat started this when we got a new kitten a few years ago.

Then I'm pretty positive it's a territorial thing!! My cat started this when we got a new kitten a few years ago.
yep. actually 2 other cats (but one is primarily downstairs with my IL's) and a few dogs (downstairs). She's never been around other animals.
i'm glad i don't have the only freaky kitty! DH is like "maybe she's trying to drown herself bc she doesn't like you"
