Thomasville Furniture

It looks great online but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the prices or quality? Does anyone own anything from them?

I love my thomasville!!! We have the bedroom set and dining room and it is great quality. It is a little pricey, but well worth it in my opinion!

Re: Thomasville Furniture

I have beautiful high quality dining furniture from them. 4 years old and seriously brand new. I want to sell parts of the dining set. I already have my eyes on some other gorgeous pieces that I want to mix in my setChat Icon DH wants to kill me, but I can't help it that I am a serial home shopper.

The prices are high but their furniture is heirloom quality. I have several pieces from them including a diningroom set and its all holding up beautifully.

Re: Thomasville Furniture

I've been shopping around and their furniture seems to be really high quality - it's not cheap but less expensive than Ethan Allen.

Re: Thomasville Furniture

I just bought my bedroom set over the summer there. We hit it at the right time. They were having a huge 4th of July sale. We bought a king bed and two night stands and paid approximately $3,000.

We also bought living room furniture from them. YOU CANNOT GO WRONG W/THOMASVILLE. HOLDS ITS VALUE

I inherited my Thomasville four poster bed that is over 20 years old and looks brand new (pic in my album). Their furniture is great quality and will last.

Re: Thomasville Furniture

Warning: This is long! The cliff notes? Thomasville furniture ain't all it's cracked up to be.

I have a Thomasville bedroom set that we purchased about a year ago. I'll say this, I love the style of it, it is beautiful and exactly what I was looking for. That being said, the quality is so NOT what I expected it to be.

I chose Thomasville because I believed we were buying quality, something that would last generations. I thought of the furniture as an investment in a lifelong set. This is not at all what we got. I believe that Thomasville sets from 20 years ago are of this quality, but that's not what is being made today. Today, they are just living off the reputation they built decades ago.

When our furniture arrived, I was horrified to see big "Made in China" stickers all along the back of it. What happened to being made in Thomasville, NC? Well, those days are gone and now pretty much all of Thomasville's furniture is made overseas and literally delivered to the States on a slow boat from China.

I had to refuse delivery three times on BOTH our dresser and our armoire because they kept arriving damaged. Apparently, this is common because of the long journey it takes to get to you. The warehouse that facilitates local delivery is supposed to make touch-ups and deliver it to you in pristine condition. This didn't happen. Three times.

I could go on and on about this, but frankly, I don't have the energy to rehash our horrific experience with Thomasville. The manager of the Westbury sttore was probably the worst part of it all, he basically told me my expectations were too high and that furniture with some gashes and scratches was acceptable in his book. I can't even! Basically, nothing was solved until I involved his boss, the district manager.

I still love a lot of pieces from Thomasville and think that if they put the same effort into quality control that they put into design and marketing, they'd have a much better product.

We finally have a set that doesn't have any visible damage on the outside (though one drawer is chipped on the inside, which is annoying because my hosiery keeps getting caught on it and pulled), but the process to get here was so crazy, I still get angry when I think about it.

The other thing is, the furniture seems to have this weird coating on it that literally acts like a dust magnet. From googling reviews, I've learned that some feel it's a weird plasticized lacquer that is put on during the manufacturing in China.

Sigh. Never again!

Re: Thomasville Furniture

Not sure if his is even a concern, but Thomasville is now made overseas, like many other brands. It is owned by a company that makes several other brands as well, which sell at lower price points. I have a 10 year old Thomasville chair and ottoman that held up pretty well. They were made when Thomasville still manufactured in North Carolina. Now, I prefer furniture by Hooker, which is also made overseas these days. The quality is just as good, but the price is lower. I LOVE Henredon, but they are much more expensive and still manufactured overseas. Thomasville stores actually sell other brands now as well, so I think its worth looking at everything they have in stock.

Re: Thomasville Furniture

From what we were told when we went to High Point to buy our furniture, all of the "big box" furniture is being made in china and sent over.

I think almost anything that you buy (Thomasville or otherwise) is going to be some solid woods with veneers.

We purchased a cocktail table from Thomasville and I am not impressed by the quality at all. It is all chipped and scratched and with the prices that they charge I would have expected more from them.

Re: Thomasville Furniture

I have a chair and ottoman from there in DD's room. Granted, I sit in it every night when I read to her and if she wakes, I lie with her in the chair. It still looks pretty good, and it's very comfortable-- but I feel like the cushions will be worn out quickly. I have had it less than a year-- but we shall see!

Re: Thomasville Furniture

I'm disappointed with Thomasville -

I purposely went there b/c my Mom's Bedroom, Dining Room and Living Room are from there - all well over 20 years old and still in perfect condition.

She had a problem a few years ago with one of the pedestals of the DR and they replaced it -

We got our LR tables there (I wasn't really in love w/ anything else) they ARE ridiculously well made and HEAVY - however, the finish on them is AWFUL - chipped, scratched - and these are not tables that are abused at all. They are barely touched.
The 'finish' warranty on them was only 1 year .......so I basically have to sand/refinish a $2500 coffee table only 5 years after I purchased it.

Thank you for signing up for a new account & bumping this two year old thread to tell us that. Chat Icon

Since we're on the topic, I will add that my Thomasville couch that I have had for a year is badly sagging and we heard a few springs pop.

The frame & springs are supposed to be under warranty for 5 years, so if i can find the paperwork, hopefully they can and will fix it.

Also, all of the feathers are coming out of the throw pillows.

I see that this is super old but I just wanted to say most of our furniture is from Thomasville and Ethan Allen. A few pieces came defective (leather on the couch had weird coloring, a leather trunk came damaged) but they are really good about replacing things. So far everything has held up really well.
