Let's talk sleepovers...

do you allow them? Your house? Friends house? What age do they typically start?

My DD, 6, has been begging me for a sleepover! What do you do?

Re: Let's talk sleepovers...

I remember having sleepovers really early as a kid. I slept over kids houses starting in 2nd grade, or they slept over mine. The sleepover party really started taking off in 4th grade, I remember.

But, maybe that's just girls, because neither my son nor any of his friends has asked for one, and they are 10 and in 5th grade Chat Icon

Re: Let's talk sleepovers...

My 9 year old has had only 1 sleepover - it was with one of his friends who he actually calls his cousin. I am very close friends since childhood with the parents. And I was nervous about that!!

He's asked for a few others.. but I generally don't allow them.. but I am becoming more open to the idea as he gets older and more responsible for himself.

Noah is only 7 and I won't consider it for him until he is at least 9/10.

ETA: I have had some kids sleep over OUR house (3 times). I don't mind this at all.

My son has had several sleepovers with his classmates - which started off slowly at about 6-7 yo. He's been over his friends houses for sleepovers maybe 2 or 3 times.

My daughter (7) hasn't had a classmate sleepover & hasn't slept out at a classmate's house yet.

We have had my friend's daughter over countless times. She's a single mom, so any chance I can have her daughter over, I do.

I made a rule that you had to be 7 for a sleepover, so far I have had a few at my house and my oldest (9) has went to a few also. Now my 7 yr (since her birthday last month) has been begging.

I have had 2 girls leave about 9:30 because they miss their moms too much - so some aren't ready even at 8 or 9!

Honestly we are not doing sleepovers out of our own house EVER unless it's a cousin. I just don't trust other people. Too many creepy stories I've heard about sleepover molesting. Not comfy with it at all.

In our own home I would say 2nd grade or so? Not sure yet

Re: Let's talk sleepovers...

No sleepovers.
I see no reason for it. My children have beds in their own homes, no reason to sleep at their friends houses. If there is a PJ party, then they can go, but be picked up to sleep at home. We will not be hosting any sleepovers either.

I know that I would never get any sleep wondering if my child were safe. What if there was a fire? What if the house was robbed? What if the other parents, or older siblings did something awful to my child?

ACK!
Nope.

Re: Let's talk sleepovers...

DD#1 started having friend sleepovers when she was 6(only with her BFF from school) and I am friends with the mom. By seven she was having more and now at almost 10 she can sleepover her friends as long as I know the parents.

I will only allow Lauren to go to a couple houses for sleep overs. She's been on quite a few already (well more than few). I am very close with the parents so DH and I are comfortable with it. We swap every once in a while.

My DC have only slept over my sisters. I would probably let them have a friend sleep over before I would let them sleep at a friends house.

Re: Let's talk sleepovers...

i've had sleepovers at my house since my DD was about 4. It's always been with kids that we are friends with because i know the mom's forever.

The sleepover's have always been at my house because i have more patience for a house full of giggling girls and love playing dress up with them and doing hair and nails.

i think my DD was about 7 when she slept over at one of her friends houses and she's been to a few sleepover parties since then.
