Ryan Richard 8/9/10 (Better late than never)
I started having contractions 2 weeks before my scheduled c/s (due 8/16...scheduled for 8/11). I really wanted to schedule it for 8/9/10 and they said there was no way, they were completely booked. I even called a few days before to see if anything had opened up with ladies going early, but to no avail!
I told the OB my water broke 1 week before my due date the 1st time....he said, every pregnancy is different!
My water broke exactly one week before my due date
Funny thing is....I had gone walking that day (food shopping), ate salsa and chips for lunch, and just when I convinced DH to have "eviction" my water broke. No joke, we were in bed talking and giggling about like kids and whoosh, water breaks That was 11pm on 8/8/10. I called the OB emergency line and then had to call back after 20 mins since no one called me back. When she did call back, she was totally sleeping
1st time around, I got an epi and I failed to progress beyond 3 1/2 cm on pitocin.
Since I thought I had plenty of time, I showered, shaved, took my time to ensure the 8/9/10 birthdate I really wanted
I showed up at the hospital about an hour after my water broke. It probably took them about an hour to even check me and I was at zero. Contractions were every 4-5 mins and getting worse. They checked me about an hour later since they could see how uncomfortable the contractions were getting for me and I went from zero to 4cm
Anesthesiologist was there...ready for me....we were all waiting on my OB to get there. I was so pizzed it was taking so long. They do not like to give an epi for a scheduled c/s before a spinal. I was pretty much begging them for it at that point. I could barely catch my breath between contractions. As soon as one ended the next one began. OB finally shows up and says...why aren't we doing a vbac? I said because I have an 8 plus lb baby in there. She says....ah, yes...let's get her into surgery. It was at least another 1/2 hour before I got the spinal and I know I must have been at 5 or 6 cm at that point. I labored WAY harder with this baby than I did with #1 and he was scheduled
If my last growth sono had shown a 6 or 7 lb baby....I totally would've had an epi and a vbac. DH and I were too nervous about the risk involved with such a big baby. No one thought I was a good candidate from the start. He was 8lbs 12 oz
I never imagined I was going to labor the way I did with this baby. Based on my past history, there was no reason for my OB to think I would've progressed as fast as I did, which is why she probably took her time getting there.
Needless to say Ryan Richard joined this world on 8/9/10 at 3:23AM weighing 8lbs 12 oz and measuring 21 inches long and we are blessed ?:
and our VERY proud big brother Jack:

Re: Ryan Richard 8/9/10 (Better late than never)
I would have done the same thing, took my time for a 8/9/10 birth date.
Congratulations, both your boys are adorable!!!
