DS is invited to a birthday party for twins
but only knows one of them. Should I buy 2 gifts? 1 slightly nicer gift than I usually would for them to share?
Thanks!

Two gifts. Equal value - even if it's slightly less in value to your regular amount you would spend.

This is how I buy gifts for all of our twin friends. DS has 3 sets of twin friends.

Re: DS is invited to a birthday party for twins
Interesting...I never thought about it. My son got an invite to a girl in his class' birthday party.
I don't know the girl whose party it is (met the mom once while I served lunch at school) but do know she is a twin and it is also the twin's birthday party that day (only found out because my friend who has twins has her kids in each of the twins class). Do I have to buy for both? The invite says only for the girl I know. Don't even know the other twins name (but could find out). I only bought for one when I shopped and assumed that is right ....now this has me thinking....Any time I went to a twin birthday party before I knew both twins. What do you think?

Re: DS is invited to a birthday party for twins
I've always gotten a regular size gift for the kid we know and a smaller item for the other child. Something very small, under $10, more of a token item. The parents always say it wasn't necessary and it probably isn't, I know I wouldn't expect it if I was the host parent. I know someone else who has gotten a gift that both kids can use together like games or something that is a more than one player toy, which is another good idea.

If the invite was for only the kid we knew that's who I would buy for.

I agree...if the invite just says 1 twins name..Id only buy for that one.
I believe the OP was invited to a party with both twins names on the invite. If thats the case..I think a bigger gift for the twin she knows and something small for the 2nd twin.
tough situation though.

Ditto. BTDT, and it seems like the majority of people did that.

Re: DS is invited to a birthday party for twins
We've been to 2 twin parties. I asked the parents. They've insisted just for the one child that they are invioted for, however I've gotten the other a smaller gift as well or depending on what we got the other child the same.

Re: DS is invited to a birthday party for twins
Everyone we have invited to my boys' parties have known both since they were always in the same class but next year I would invite based on which one they knew and would think that they would bring a gift for the one kid they were invited for. Some people would not even know it was a twin bday if not on the invite, kwim.

Re: DS is invited to a birthday party for twins
Thanks everyone! Only one of the twins is in his class, but I think he plays with the other on the playground. I'll get 2 gifts just to be safe.

Re: DS is invited to a birthday party for twins
If I know the party is for twins, I would buy 2 gifts, equal value.

Re: DS is invited to a birthday party for twins
i have a set limit on what i spend on friends kids or kids friends. and those with twins i will buy 2 gifts of equal value.
so if i have a limit of $50 per kid, i would spend $25-$30 on each child
make sense?
