When Did Your LO start showing fear at inanimate objects?

So, my mother LOVES to decorate her house with scarecrows for the fall. It is her absolute favorite. You walk in her house, and there are scarecrows, everywhere!

Well, I went over her house with DD the other day and we were contentedly playing on her blanket on the floor. She was practicing her rocking back and forth on her hands and knees, everyone was loving it, when all of a sudden, she happened to glance over her shoulder and saw one of my Mom's scarecrows on the floor by the fireplace. I'd say about 18-24" tall.

DD totally got scared of it. Now, every time we go over my mother's house, she looks for it (Mom hid it). I am just wondering if this is a normal time for something like this to happen...

She is 7 months.

It seemed like a real bad scare too. She was crying and the look of fear on her face was so sad. I scooped her up and hugged her and kissed her til she got over it. It totally broke my heart!!

I've seen babies react to things like this at around 6 months. Ds was actually afraid of some sounds, like if you say Jhooozoom real loud.

So wed say it, gently, over and over, and laugh, so now he hears it and laughs. I did the same thing with fire trucks, he thinks their hillarious, because of my reaction to them.

Another example, we take a music class in a place they give karate lessons, their are boxing bags or whatever they are. A daddy in the class walks up with his baby and does a karate move at the bag, the baby flinched, and when coming close to the bag cries. I saw this was curious, took ds to it, took his hand and whent "punch punch punch" and he thought it was fun and hysterically laughing.
