30th Birthday and Pregnant!!

Soooooo ....
originally I was planning on going out to some bar with a bunch of friends and DRINKING DRINKING DRINKING!!!! hahaha!!

BUT now I'm pregnant and no one really knows yet.

I don't think people will let me get away with doing nothing. So I was thinking of going to a bar anyway and telling the bartender to help me fake it. But this is for sure going to get really hard... I just know people are going to be buying me coors and stuff.

IDK what to do!!! Or even where to go!!

Then I started thinking maybe I'll go someplace where I could eat a light dinner, and then others can drink at the same place afterwards, while I fake it... ahhh I just don't know. but this still brings me to the same problem where it's going to be hard to fake it.

My people are all DEFINITE drinkers so there's really no getting around going to a place for drinking.

What should I do?

ha ha too bad I can't put off my 30th bday until next year.....

just say you're on meds and when u drink on them u get nauseous/dizzy

That's tough because I was sh!tfaced for mine. People are going to want to buy you drinks. It's going to be rough. I would suggest a big dinner or maybe faking sickness will work too.

u had a previous injury flare up and needed pain killers?

dental visit and are on antibiotics?

Tell your friends that you have something to do the next morning and need to be up early so you are NOT doing shots. Then sip on your fake drinks all night & if someone does buy you a drink/ beer carry it around with you for a little. Take a fake sip or two in front of them, then go off to "talk to someone else" or "use the bathroom" and get rid of the drink, or pour half of it out etc. Also give it to DH to drink for a little when noone is looking so that it looks like you are. If someone buys you a mixed drink ask the bartender (or have DH ask him) to make you a fakie that looks like what they just got you... Always have a fake drink in your hands though, so if someone offers to buy you a drink you can be like "just got this one, next round?"

It seems like alot of work but if you really want to pretend like you are drinking it will work and within an hour I am sure they will be too drunk to notice!.

Then after a little while you can pretend you are feeling a little nauseas and want to "slow down" so you dont get sick and ruin your birthday.


I think Im a professional fake drinker.

-Tell them you are not drinking beer because you got soooo drunk the night before (or last weekend) and cant even stand the smell of it right now. If that doesnt work, then take the beer bottle to the bathroom, empty it out, and fill it with another non-alcoholic drink. I had to do that at an after wedding party once. Worked like a charm

-I agree with using the bathroom as often as you can, and if someone buys you a real drink, just dump some out in the bathroom

Also, after awhile of everyone else drinking, no one is gonna notice that you arent drunk or even how much you are not drinking.

i dont drink mixed drinks ever so i would never be able to fake it...

either get mixed drinks... i would never buy someone a beer if they were drinking liquor... eta: or i wouldnt even go out... id fake being sick

Ahh! I have no suggestions! This is hard to do! Just try and have fun. I agree with letting DH drink for you and dumping out your beers. Hopefully everyone else will have a few in them and they won't notice. When someone asks if you need a drink say "I ust got one!"

Well, do they know you've been trying? Tell them your dr recommended not to drink at all this cycle and see what happens.

Can you just invite them to your house for appys and drinks and say you aren't feeling well so you are passing on the drinks?

You could always have a Coors Light bottle filled with water. My friend did that when she was pregnant and got through the night pretty well

When is your birthday? Can you say with the holidays coming up you can't really find the time to celebrate with everyone that you really want to celebrate with. Then see if you can all make plans for a day after teh holidays to go out and celebrate and then you will be past your first trimester and then can tell them (If that was what you were planning on doing?)

I'm sorry you have such a tough situation. I know me, and I wouldn't be able to fake drink somewhere a long the line someone would be asking me to do a shot, or wondering why I was going into the bathroom so much... I feel like they would be questioning me.

I found out right before my 30th birthday also. I ended up having people over for cocktails at my place and then going out for a bit. At my house, it was easy to make myself fake drinks. After, everyone had enough drinks, no one really noticed that I carried around a glass of seltzer the rest of the night.

i dont know this is a hard one! because there is always one person who notices and is going to be like "what are you pregnant" if you dont drink, even if you say you are on meds! my brother in law did this at my house when he came over for dinner cuz i didnt have a glass of wine!!!! really cuz maybe i am pregant and dont need you announcing it to the world! keep your thoughts to yourself! i just know that when we do tell him he is going be like see i told you! yeah dur not that hard to figure out cuz i always drink a glass of wine, but i mean really no need to call me out on it! (sorry mini vent!)

i would just tell the bartender and fake it! and just tell people you are not drinking beer tonight cuz the night before you drank too much beer and got you sick, so your sticking to hard stuff tonight. then just enjoy the fruity goodness! and act a little tipsy every now and then!!

In cases like that I order a Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice & cranberry on the rocks. No one knows it has no alcohol and you can tell them you don't want to mix beer with mixed drinks.

I actually had a few people ask for a sip and tell me "Wow that is awesome. You can really get drunk on this because it goes down so easy and you can't even tell it has alcohol"...I just giggle to myself at that point.

Def get the bartender on your side and drink club sodas with lemon all night, throw in a splash of cranberry if you want to really look the part

Well it's your birthday what do you want to do?? Will you have fun out at a bar sober while everyone else is getting wasted?? Especially since it's your 30's people will prob want to buy you drinks and shots. I know I hate being out at a bar when everyone else is drinking and I'm not...

But its your b day so you have to celebrate it how you want. I was pg on my 30th this summer and just did dinner...it was great!

I also went away with DH to celebrate too.

This sounds good.

but, they are so going to be onto me!! the last few times I saw friends, I wasn't drinking and brushed it off. You can only do that for so long...

and even that white lie needs another lie... they will for sure ask what is wrong and what I'm on, etc.

Can you have something small at your place? It's definitely easier to fake it when you're mingling and playing hostess.
We had the same situation, but DH had already had a bday party planned for me before I got my BFP. At the time of the party, I was 8 weeks (but no one knew). I was also pretty sick. We considered canceling, but we knew my friends would think something was up. So we had it anyway. I got through feeling ill with adrenaline. DH catered everything and hired a server for the night so I didn't have to do much. I walked around with a glass of sangria in my hand. Then I realized it look pretty darn similar to cranberry juice, so I switched to that so I could take sips. Believe me, my friends are big drinkers, so I didn't know how I would get away with it, but I did.

When I finally told everyone I was pregnant a few weeks later, a few people said, "But you were drinking on your birthday!" Guess I had them fooled!

You should celebrate somehow. If you can't get people together at your place, then a dinner would be good. You can always say ahead of time that you have something early the next am, so you can't go out and party afterwards.
