9th graders have no tact at all!

I teach Resource Room and I'm reviewing Lord of the Flies with them. I had mentioned I read it in high school but that was a long time ago. One of them said something along the lines of "You must have read it in the 70's." I'm 25 years old- I don't know how they came to the conclusion I went to H.S 30 years ago...making me in my 50's!

Few days later...they asked me what it was like to go to H.S without computers.

The real kicker was two days ago. They had a H.S blood drive. They asked me if I was giving blood and I told them I didn't weigh enough and they didn't believe me, hinting that I was much bigger than 110lbs (ok I'm like 115- I streched the truth a LITTLE, but I think I can pass for 110). They refused to believe me!

I give all you Elementary teachers so much credit! If 9th graders make these knd of comments I don't even want to know what the little ones say!

i call it word vomit
they usually say that i look 16 though..i still get carded for EVERYTHING

Elementary students usually either think you are 17 or 70. They are too funny!

I once wrote about Christmas 1984 as an example of a good paragraph. First the kids were like OMG 1984????? You're ancient! (Keep in mind I was born in 1981!) Then they were like "you got a cabbage patch kid? what the hell is that?? So when I brought it in to show them, I held it up. Their only response? "BUT WHAT DOES IT DO??????? I was like, uh you're looking at it.

I've also had a 9th grade male student say to me once "O you're wearing that green sweater again. Why? It makes you look like a pickle and it's ugly" I actually like that sweater, it was a simple V neck from J Crew, but after that, I couldn't wear it! I blame him for my new school wardrobe

Oh boy I hear you!

I always think that it is a good thing I am secure and have tough skin bc if I didn't I might cry!

Kids either think Im 20 or 50

And they will comment on every little flaw

The compliments are nice though, bc you know there sincre

Before I even confirmed to my students that I was pregnant (they guessed at 9wks), one of them made a comment that she thought I was having triplets I don't even know if I knew I was pregnant at the time I think I was in the 2ww... but was on fertility drugs that bloated me up like a balloon!

Teenagers are funny! They say funny things and have no clue sometimes.

Honestly, I think it gets better as they go through HS. I teach mostly 10th graders and they definitely get more than the 9th graders. And then they mature even more when they get to 11th grade. It is fun to watch them change.

ETA- I always tell my students that I am not 90 and I can hear them talking or their cell phone on vibrate or their music from their IPod. They look at me like wow, you have good hearing.
