Sleep problems - 4 yr old

I have posted before and I will post again, lol. Let me start by saying I had no sleep problems prior to around feb of last year. She used to sleep 12 hrs at night and went to sleep on her own. Now, ugh. Every day is different. I am losing my motivation to even try. Its affecting me, my marriage, and her health I am sure. Some nights she is up until 11:30pm. I have tried talking, yelling, rewards, punishment, tv, no tv, watching her diet.....there is no consistancy with anything. Some nights she is in her room playing in the dark for 3 hours. She comes out several times and just doesn't seem tired. I don't know if she doesn't know how to sooth herself since I took away her binky or just has that much energy. I just don't know what to do. She goes to pre-k 5 days for 2.5 hrs, dance class, and does plenty of running around. Is this something that the ped can help with? Do I take her in for a visit? Is there a "sleep doctor" anywhere? A miracle?

Re: Sleep problems - 4 yr old

She stopped napping before she was 2. If she did, she would be up late. So at that time, when I stopped the nap, she would go to bed fine.

Re: Sleep problems - 4 yr old

Do you have a bedtime routine? I mean, I know it seems simple to say a routine will help, but it really, really does.
All the lights in the house get turned off or down an hour before bedtime here. We hang out on the couch reading books or listening to really soothing music, or talk about the day, etc. Then we make our way upstairs, brush teeth, lay in her bed and read books, etc. Then it's bed time. She can read books until she falls asleep, but she must stay in her bed. Sometimes she's up for an hour singing and reading. Other times she goes right to sleep. Either way, I think that bedtime routine is what helps settle her from the day.

Yes, we have had the same routine for years. The only thing that changed is when she gave up the binky, she had a tv in her room for awhile. That is out now. She watches a show in my bed, brush teeth, go potty, read books in her bed and then lights out. She used to read books in her bed until she fell asleep but that doesn't work anymore either.
