Teaching Assistants
Does anyone know what you have to do to get certified to do this?
I have a social studies certification, and lost my job last year when my school closed. There is NOTHING out there right now, and my unemployment is going to run out soon.
Anyone know anything about becoming a TA?

Re: Teaching Assistants
I was a teaching assistant in a HS on Northern Nassau for 2 years. I looked through the districts's websites that I was willing to commute to under the employment/jobs sections. Some allow you to fax your resume directly to their HR..others direct you to OLAS.
I received a call, interviewed..and was offered the spot. Because I was in the process of receiving my teaching certification, I had already take my LAST and ATSW..I was told that I did not have to take the TA certification test. However, I did have to apply for the TA certification.
I am not sure how much has changed. I was a TA from 2004-2006..you may need to check with the state.
Good luck!

Re: Teaching Assistants
My cousin is a certified teacher and cannot find a job so she works as a T.A. She does not have TA certification. You should be fine since you would be over qualified.
