Wait or find a new job?

My cousin was laid off from his job a couple of months ago. He has a wife and 3 children. His wife works but doesn't make enough to pay all the bills. He is getting unemployment, which is very little but they don't need the money to survive but it will be getting tight soon. His job is too slow in the winter to have a full crew so they lay off. They have assured him he will be back as soon as they pick up but money is getting tight and he is not sure if he should:
A. Hold out on the unemployment until they call him back.
B. Look for a temporary job
C. Look for a full time job
1. Quit when they call him back
2. Stay indefinately

Wondered if anyone has ever been in this situation and what I should tell him as I am not even sure as I never had to deal with this before.

I would absolutely look for a F/T job in this economy. I would never rely on someone's "word" that they are going to hire me back.

I have known people however who have held out until they actually found something that paid more than UE.
