STTN HELP!
Hello - I'm not a regular poster, just from time to time... My little guy is 8 months old and is just not a good sleeper. I don't need him to sleep a consistent 12 hours, but I would love 5 or call me crazy, even 6 hours. I'm not ready and/or willing to try CIO at this time. I read Elizabeth Pantley's No Cry Sleep Solution but find it hard to implement the routines due to my work schedule.
So, my questions to some of the other mommies out there:
Can my baby sleep without CIO? Will he eventually sleep? How long does teething mess up the sleep? Are there any no CIO success stories? Anyone try a gently CIO method? How do you implement a routine when working??
Thanks! (We slept a little better last night, so I an actually type!)

Re: STTN HELP!
What time does he go to sleep? What are his naps like during the day?

Re: STTN HELP!
Ideally, a good bedtime for him is around 7ish. I work part-time and the days I work, I get home around that time, which makes it difficult to stick with that time. He is a good napper, but does require an effort to get him down (rocking, stroller, nursing, etc). He takes 2 naps a day which can vary in length, but always a minimum of over an hour each.

Re: STTN HELP!
Can my baby sleep without CIO?
I think so, but it takes a lot of work and routine is key even when you are doing CIO. IMO.
Will he eventually sleep?
Again, IMO, I do not think so. I have sleep issues to this day. When DS was STTN, my husband joked that we should do sleep training on myself. My mother did not do anything like CIO, she scorned me for doing it with DS.
How long does teething mess up the sleep?
3m till now (9m) we have been teething. Sleep is messed up sometimes, but DS can sleep through most of it. At the worse when he's waking up every hour, I give him ibuprofen. I've done maybe 4 nights in his whole life. He has 2 teeth, and 2 more very ripe.
Are there any no CIO success stories?
Tons. The easiest CIO case is a baby that has been put in the crib awake but drowsy since birth, has a solid bedtime routine, has a predictable schedule during the day, has ample physical play during the day and plenty of fresh air. I have such a baby. It was hard, because i had to hear him cry for 30-45 minutes straight, but that was just one night. Its now cake. I put him in the crib, say night night, and he closes his eyes. He was going to sleep on his own since 2m, at around 5.5m he started crying when we put him down. Around them we tried different things, nothing really worked and by 6m CIO for 3 days and it worked like magic.
Anyone try a gently CIO method?
Yes, to get DS to sleep past 5am. I did. When he was 3m. I would pick him up when he got too upset, rock or soothe back to calm and drowsy and put back down. Took several hours a day, for about 2 weeks. And I had to repeat it again in a month. He now sleeps from 8pm to 7:30am
How do you implement a routine when working??
Who is watching your baby, when you're working? Can they follow your orders on what to do?

Re: STTN HELP!
Thanks for your comments. I wasn't a CIO baby and I do sleep fine (and boy do I miss it!)- so I'm not sure there's a direct correlation between current sleep issues and CIO, but that very well may be the case for you...
My work schedule is complicated. The issue is that one day a week I sleep at my parents and commute from there. So, I usually leave my house at his bedtime and he falls asleep in the car that night. I could have my parents do a bedtime routine... I guess it doesn't matter if it's me - right? But then that night, we're back in the car driving home (so now, I usually do the same thing with having him fall asleep in the car). Poor baby, his nighttime routine is a car ride two to three days a week :(
