after a sickness... i would like to send money in lieu of flowers, b/c i think this would help more... is it tacky to include a check with the condolence card?

Re: a friend's parent passed away...

It is very common for friends and family to give money. We recently had a death in the family and there were many cards with checks and cash.

Re: a friend's parent passed away...

Honestly, I would find this odd. I lost both of my parents and we didn't get money from anyone. I am not saying they wouldn't appreciate it, but it is not the norm for our circle. Generally, people made a donation in the name of the deceased if they didn't send flowers.

I lost my Mom and no one gave us money- people sent food, flowers and made donations to 2 charties we chose

but then again- everyone knew we were more then fine in terms of money
