Telephone Manners and Toddlers - question

Does telephone manners and toddlers even exist?? LOL

Well - the grandparents, friends, aunts etc... sometimes ask to speak to the children and vice versa sometimes my kids what to chim in and say hello on the phone - and so im teaching my children to say "Hello, "Grandma, Grandpa, Zia, Zio etc.., This is Julia...." and so their conversation begins.

But they get so darn shy and start speaking low etc. and they are so not like that at home! Sometimes they want to talk to the other person - but they take forever to say something.

The girls are 5 and 3 and I know its young - but i want to encourage them to be more vocal, polite - so I always tell them to speak louder so the other person hears you, say hello, yada yada.....goodbye...

Are all toddlers shy when talking on the phone? Its just funny b/c in person they usually and I say usually ..lol are not like that.

Who knows, my 5yr old who is usually timid around some people, is a chatterbox on the phone. While my friendly 3.5 yr old sometimes won't even come to the phone when the grandparents call and other times you can't get him to get off the phone.

Re: Telephone Manners and Toddlers - question

My kids can be like that. When I know its my parents or in-laws calling I will let DS answer the phone so he can practice. I also have him dial the phone to practice numbers. He is getting better but its taken about a year of daily calls where he can say hi, who is it? Waits for the answer and will repeat it to me. Then hi, grandma/grandpa, how are you? He usually responds with yes and no answers after that. He will say good bye, I love you, here's mommy.

my daughter can be extremely chit chatty on the phone. shes 4.5 - then there are days she is just not in the mood and you can barely get her to the phone ... shes usually pretty good though. She is on th ephone often though because ex DH and her speak daily.
