Book Club - Pope Joan Discussion
Hey everyone! Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!! I left off the discussion for this week so that people would have an opportunity to finish the book (seemed like some needed some more time) and also so that it wouldn't get swallowed up by the holiday weekend.
I'll start off with a very basic question...how did we like the book??
For me, honestly I had a hard time getting through it...I ended up going on wikipedia and finding out what happened in the end. I felt like it dragged on a lot and I just wasn't invested enough in the characters to find out firsthand what happened to them.

Re: Book Club - Pope Joan Discussion
I did like it and was intrigued about the idea that she did actually exist. I'm not sure if it's in all the books, but there was an explanation at the end of mine about whether she did or didn't exist.
I thought there was a bunch of extraneous information once she got to Rome. I kept thinking that all the details about battles and other popes would make sense in the end, but I think it was just so the author could say it was as factual as possible.
I definitely value being a woman in this day and age, that's for sure.

Re: Book Club - Pope Joan Discussion
sorry, forgot to check the posts!
overall, i liked the book. the beginning was a bit slow, but once the love story kicked in, i was more involved. sucker for romance i guess!!
what intrigued me was the learning process. how she learned, who she learned from, what she was and was not allowed to learn, the way the schools were organized. the whole education system was very interesting.
i am definitely glad to be a woman in our times, where i can learn what i want, wear what i want, and pretty much do what i want. and where the whole birthing process is so much easier!
